I want to write something I read from a draft book...it goes like this;

" A clasic fiery over-achiever, Roth brings tremendous intensity and a never quit attitude to the table."

Seems to me that is what they are saying of C. long today.

It also seems we already have a player who can play OLB...and has the same size as C. Long...again that being Roth. Roth along with Taylor are too small to play DE in the 3-4...but both will fit at OLB. We could have four linebackers such as these...Taylor, Crowder, Roth and Porter. We could use another DE to go along with Holliday and R. Wright. So it seems it would be far better off for the Dolphins to go after another DE and NT...since we have enough players to play linebacker on the roster.

A player like C. Campbell and possibly Ahtyba Rubin would fit nicely...but hey thats up to Parcells and Co. to figure out.

Let me know what you think...kindly please..

We need a Long. It's just not the one you mention.

Hasn't Roth gotten bigger? I mean he looks more like NT now than he does an OLB? I will admit that Roth looked like he could possibly play OLB coming out of Iowa but not anymore.

Also, Chris Long is more of a sure thing than Roth ever was.

The one thing that hurts Roth, is that his arms are short for a prototypical DE. I love Matt Roth, but Chris Long is ten times the player Matt Roth is or ever will be.

The one thing that hurts Roth is he blows. And Roth cant play LB either. Where did you get that idea? Chris Long is 10 times the player Roth is. We need him yea. We need alot of players. But, we need Matt Ryan more.

C. Long can't play DE in a 3-4...and he's slightly smaller than Roth. Roth played Linebacker in Highschool and his first year at Nebraska. Long is 6'3" 272...Roth is listed at 6'4" 272....so why do we need Long?

When Roth was drafted... he was drafted as a "tweener". A small DE who could also play linebacker. Somebody who could take over for Jason Taylor if he got injured.

It was pretty disappointing last year on one play seeing this small guy subbing for Keith Traylor at Nose Tackle.

Roth has proven to be an average 4-3 DE. Perhaps even a high-quality-backup.

Roth has the height. He has gained some strength/bulk/size. He doesn't have the speed.

Does anybody have the 40 times for JT vs. Roth vs. Long? I would be interested in seeing this. Since Roth has gained weight, I would assume he lost speed since he was drafted.

Small guys can succeed. When we drafted Ogunleye, he was the all-time Big-10 sack-leader. He sat on the bench for a year, until somebody got injured; then Wannstadt learned his name. O-gun was a 4-3 DE, though.

ps. How many sacks did Long get this year?

exactly.

to me, chris long is like the second coming of zach thomas (they've even look alike which is eerie), but i would rather take jake long when it comes down to it. he's more of a sure bet and barring any injuries (), he would be an anchor on the o-line for years to come.

Roth ran a 4.80....Taylor ran 4.64 at 245 lbs...and Long hasn't run yet.

An awful lot of people are assuming that we will see a 3-4 defense being implemented right off. That may very well be the case. But it might not be. With a couple of exceptions, our defense is filled with mediocre talent. If a 3-4 is going to be effective we need better than mediocre.
There's also alot of talk about Shaun Rogers being that NT we need for the 3-4. Does anyone know if Rogers has ever played in a 3-4? I pretty sure that Detroit uses a 4-3. I know I've read in the past that Rogers has had motivational issues.
Myself, I think a line with Taylor and Chris Long playing End and Rogers and Soliai in the middle could be a formidable front 4.

Parcells changed over the Cowboys defense from a 4-3 to a 3-4...he has use a 3-4 in most places he's been coaching...he's not going to change his spots now. We have enough players to play a 3-4...with the exception of a 3-4 NT...That what I'd be looking for either by draft or trade.

Jake Long would make so many guys better on our offense....I would take Jake...we can get a DE or a big LB/NT later on.
