What do you think? Allen and his 5 year deal or Dolphins with the 6 year deal?
Are the Dolphins being to forceful or is JA being a stupid rookie thinking that the league owes something already?

I'm going to actually blame the Fins on this one. What's one more year to them - He might suck it up his first two years or gets injured.

6 years always seemed too long for a rookie contract. I see why Allen wouldn't want to commit to that. I would be happy if the Phins just signed him for 5.

I can see both sides. Allen feels like he should be allowed to test free agency earlier and the typical deals in the past for high draft picks have been around the 4 to 5 year range. The Dolphins want to lock him up longer and put off worrying about a bigger money contract for one more year. I honestly lead somewhat to Allen's side. I'm not into players being greedy, but I can see why Allen would want one less season. He wants the opportunity to test free agency earlier and make bigger bucks and not risk one more year of possible injury. It's hard to argue with either side, but Miami has had a history of being stubborn in these types of situations.

It's neither one of their faults... they are each trying to get what is best for them. I blame it ALL on the NFL and the NFLPA. They SHOULD have came up with a slotting system and put it into this last year's CBA. Rookie's are getting WAAAAAAY too much money when they have proven nothing and it is just getting worse and worse each year. It would have been simple as the contracts alsmost have been slotting themselves for several years now. Just look at the averages for the last few years for each draft position, figure out roughly what percentage of cap space they were in each given for that year, and make up a formula based on that information. BAM! No more rookie holdouts, no more worries about rookie contracts spiraling out of control, more money available for veterans, there is NO downside.

If they REALLY wanted to they could have even thrown in a negotiating period, that if the two sides want to work out a non-standard contract they have between XXXdate - YYYdate (before training camp begins) and after that period the ONLY contract that can be signed is the standard slotted contract. Then you would have the best of both worlds and put a hard date on when negotiating MUST end.

6 is to long IMO

My favorite was Matt Leinarts contract, apparently according to him the only thing seperating them now is the amount of years and how much money.

Yeah, they need to bend on this one. 5 years is good.

Your not kidding. Miami throws the shaft down on it's players sometimes. :shakeno:

Allen. The player needs the stability.

???

What does that mean. Financial stability? Whether he signs for 5 or 6 years he will get that. I seriously don't understand your point.

I'm suprisingly with the player in this situation. It's not that the money is the issue, it's the length. In this case Allen isn't being greedy, he's being prudent.

I think you are looking at this the wrong way! This is not the dolphins vs. JA, this is the fins vs. his agent. The agent is pulling all the strings here. I am sure his agent has told him that the fins are cheating him by signing a 5 year deal. JA is going to get paid, period. His agent is the one who is going to profit from him signing his next contract. I am will to bet that JA just wants to get out there and play.

I think 5 years is reasonable. If the Dolphins are holding to the position that the deal is either 6 years or it does not happen, then I think they are the side that is being more unreasonable.

I see both sides, but Alles sitll have to prove himself, he hasnt play a down yet and he's gettin big money, if he lives up to the expectations he can renegociate his contract I guess.
