Just curious what people think. Do you consider Nascar or any other racing to be a "sport".

this is from the dictionary:

  1. <LI type=a>Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
  2. A particular form of this activity.
  3. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
  4. An active pastime; recreation.
the only question i think people would have about it being a sport would be the physical exertion part and all i know is this: i got to ride a nascar as fast as i could around lowes speedway in charlotte for 3 laps - no power steering, super high banking at 140 mph - when i got out of the car, i was physically and mentally exhausted especially how close i got to the wall - these nascar guys do this 40-50 mph faster and another 200 laps with 40 extra cars on the track - it's a sport

I watch Nascar (nextel cup) but I don't consider it a sport... It takes a lot of talent to be able to do the things they do, but that doesn't make it sport. The crews are more of athletes then the drivers.

Of course yes. Anyone that can drive a car at that level while pulling so many G's is an athlete to me.

Of course it's a sport, everyone one has to be athletic (crew members and drivers). A lot of people don't actually realized how hard it is to drive a ill-handling car at 190mph. How many of you could do that.

I can't be a lion tamer. Does that make it a sport?

Difference between "skill" and "sport"

I didn't mean that if you can't do it's a sport, I was just pointing out that it's very hard because some people think it's easy.

A lot of things are hard. Doesn't make everything a sport.

Good point, but I still think it's a sport.

Shouldn't a sport involve a ball or something? I don't know, I answered the question makes my head hurt.

By that definition, it's a sport.
