Do you see any players on the roster that are underestimated making an impact in such a way as to influence decision making in the draft? For example, does the NT Green, who has nfl experience at NT, impact decision making if he has developed in the off-season? Same for Van Hoy. Does the development of Holmes or Johnson influence the drafting of a TE? Same for Brooks or Berger on the OL? I am not sure if I see any of those type of players on the roster. I will make my guesses. Berger, Alabi and Brooks could influence OL situation. Gibson could influence wr situation. Someone like Sinclair could influence lb decisions, but I doubt given his NFLE status. I would be interested in how Mitchell influences the db situation, and I would like to know more about Hoy, who has the NT size. All in all I do not see many if any guys on the roster that would influence decision making other than a guy like Mitchell.

Vickerson - Raw huge big body, if the coaches feel hes ready to play. I'd say they will pass on a Day One DT.

yea i dont thik we need a day 1 dt. we have vickerson, wright, holliday and tractor, and zgnonia

Wasn't Gibson a 2nd or 3rd round selection of Pittsburg's only last year ?
We need to see him in Action. I guess Wright, Vickerson and Alabi have the most influence tho... cuz this regime drafted them.

I think Alabi and Shirdonya Mitchell might affect the way we draft. I don't think Vickerson or Wright or Gibson will. Now, if those players step up in the season, it will affect how we approach FA/cuts/long term contracts for next year.

I will say this....if we are going to go to the SB this year, our Dline will need more production that we got last season. Whether that be from Vickerson, Wright or just more consistent play from Traylor, Holliday, and Zgonina...it is going to have to improve mightily at the point of attack.

Saban and local media have stated NT is a priority..

I don't have the source for Saban right away, but Jason Cole has stated that NT is a priority through his contact with the team. And I know I have read that Saban mentioned NT as a priority. I will try to find that source.

I'm sure this is probably obvious, but from a number of comments coming from Nick and some players, I think they are expecting BIG things from him this year and thus probably not speding a first day pick on CB. I also agree DT will not be top priority because of potential talent. But despite some mock drafts out there, I don't think we pick CB in first round. I think Poole's expected emergence will allow Nick to go with another need in the first round.

First of all, great thread. Secondly, I do think Fred Gibson could be a big addition at a cheap pricel. Just not sure why Pitt gave up on him. Still think we go secondary/lb in the first and WR in the 3rd.

I've got a few sleepers.....Fred Gibson, WR......great size, potential, which could influence our 1st round pick.......another is Teyo Johnson another guy with great size and was highly touted coming out of college, he's another TE that played college basketball, I have a heart for those guys............another is Matt Roth, I know first hand what he's capable of being an Iowa fan, I think a year of adjusting to a new system and a new level will have helped him and could be a breakout year for him.......

yep matt roth... although i dont know if hes a sleeper as last years #2

i would say vickerson and shiradona mitchel... (yea i cant spell it) :sidelol:

edit: if we can include roth then my vote is ronnie brown for sleeper pick

Vickerson will be a FA at the end of this year ... so he will be playing for a contract

Not sure how that might affect the draft strategy ... but regardless - we don't have a true NT outside of Traylor -- and he is not likely to play all 16 games ............

The only players I see as affecting anything right now is Tony Pape, this guy was pretty good his rookie year, had a hell of a NFLE season, then quit, but if he gets back to NFLE form and let Houck take him from there, he's a good RT or G for years to come. In the secondary, Poole is the key to me, if he's 100% back from that ACL, then our corners are going to be pretty good and deep. The only other sleeper is S. Mitchell, the other CB we save in the background last season...if he turns out to be another Agunleye, then we're definitely set at CB.

He would be a sleeper considering how his contribution last year, but if we're ignorant and just look at where somebody's drafted and that means they can't be a sleeper, then yeah, i guess he's not a sleeper.

IGNORANT

i got a sleeper for you..kelly cambell...the WR we got from the vickings..daunte loves him..he's a speedster so look for him to make a lot big plays.

I think the needs are LB 1st, CB/S 2nd and DL 3rd.

Now, because this is a strong 1st round draft for LB's, depending on what other teams are doing, we could be trading our 1st for a bottom 1st round and a second, and still get a solid LB. That would be really nice to happen.

I think Hodge, Pope and Spragan should be OK in the LB's mix but none of them have the potential of a Thomas or a Crowder. So, there are no players whose impact is huge on this position.

Then we have the very promising CB depth, Allen could be solid under Saban's scheme, Poole was really good before his injury and Daniels was Solid in his first year. Mitchell could be a surprise, but you never know. I think that if there is a CB that Saban likes at the #16 spot, he will take him and Daniels goes to the Safety spot. On the other hand, if there is a Safety worth to pick at #16, Saban will pick him and Daniels is in the mix of Starting CB's.

Our DL's need to be replaced, and there is no room for OK replacements, those replacements should be NASTY! There is a Possibility Roth a Wright are those kind of players, but then you have Traylor, Zgonina, Holliday, Carter and eventually Taylor, all of them getting older and sooner than later we will need younger players to step up. I wouldn't be upset if Saban draft a DT with the #16 spot, that, of course, if we happen to land someone like Ngata.
