Pretty clear. IMO we are good and we just need to wait until this offense can help our defense and not the other way around.
This what I posted on another thread.
This defense is not Nolan's grind it out. It's designed like the Bengals' defense and it's supposed to make teams playing catch up pay through turn overs and bend but not break.
It's not a defense that will cause many three and outs, it's a defense that will get takeaways and hit the passer.
When our offense starts performing the synergy between the two will work out.
It's also a defense that will tire out, all the stunting our front four does wears them out, outside Sol, we are undersized and prone to get the ball ran up our guts.
It's not that the personnel is wrong, Jeff actually did a great job of assembling this defense in record time, the problem is it lacks the synergy it needs from the offense.
We changed from bump and run corners to zone, we changed reacting line backers to attacking line backers (which is the correct definition of what these guys do right) not blitzing, not coverage but guys that will dictate what the offense does with their cheer athleticism to show up anywhere on the field unexpectedly.
We changed from OLBs to DEs. IMO we just have to keep this defense competitive through this FA period and switch our LBs back to SOLB on the left and WOLB on the right.
That last point is because I think Wheeler is always out of position cause he tries to run around TEs and FBs lead blocking him cause he lacks the PoA leverage to shed blocks.
IMO we play Wheeler and Misi switched first because Wake plays on the left so we want the ability to have an additional blitzer (Misi) on the right and because we think it will throw offenses off but there's so much tape on this defense already that's pointless. We should switch it back to normal to help Wheeler be more effective and make the best use of Misi's physicality.
So in a few words I think adjustments are needed but not churn or replacing the DC, at all.
Ooops, I meant DC, sorry.
