Many players we have that were going to be UFAs or RFAs have gotten new contracts or are in talks to get them. The last case is Greg Camarillo, and he clearly deserves it.

However, there have been not even rumors of talks with Vernon Carey. This leads me to believe he won't be back next season. What do you think?

The poll should have a couple different options. One should be do you think he will be franchise-tagged.

Franchised-tagged means he's signed to a 1 year contract. Before you get to use the tag, there should be some failed talks, right?

Also of note, in regards to Ireland's evaluation of the 2008 draft class, I really liked his answer:

Ireland: I think three years is when you can evaluate a draft. Sometimes it takes players more time than that to develop. I use that philosophy when I evaluate players on other teams that I didn't draft. If they are not successful after three years, it's hard to say they will be. But I think it also depends on the position as well. Look at quarterback. You can say a certain kid hasn't developed yet, but it could be because he hadn't played yet.

When we look back at the 2008 draft, we will be saying we hit on Jake Long. I'm certain of that. We're going to say we hit on Chad Henne. It may be three years, it may be four years down the road when we really know that. But from what I've seen of Henne in this short exposure, I'd say we hit on him.

Phillip Merling is playing regularly. He has a good base to him. I think you'll feel good about him. Kendall Langford, I think you are going to feel good about him. Donald Thomas, we liked what we saw of him in a short amount of time. I think the two running backs we drafted will get a chance in the next year or two to show what they can do. There may not be any Hall of Fame players in this group, but there might just be. You'll know in three years how we did in this draft.

I particularly liked the part on hitting on all of those players, it might not be right away, for example Chad Henne, but it could be a few years down the road. I'd say that's a pretty clear indication of how they feel about Henne. I also think Jalen Parmele can come in and be our #2 RB in 2010 when Ricky's extension is up.

All in all, I foresee in the future having Long, Merling, Henne, Langford and Thomas as starters, Dan Carpenter is the kicker. We'll also have Parmele, Dotson, Bess, as rotational players. This may shake out to be one of the best draft classes in Dolphin history.

Have a bad feeling Carey is on the way out. Dont understand why he has'nt been given a contract yet if they want to keep him (especially with the cap room). Franchise tag is not an option IMO because that would mean he would get top 5 O-Lineman money, which I think the FO could get him signed for alot less.

I think he wont be a Fin next season

Carey was a friggin turnstile on Sunday.

Almost all of Seattle's pressure came over the right side (not surprising since we are weak at RG too.)

I'm scratching my head now, VC looked great last year playing LT, now it looks like he has regressed after moving back to RT.

I don't think they will give him the big payday. If he's ok with that then he might stay, but I think they will be looking for a RT sooner rather than later.

I think he will be tagged. But that doesnt mean he will be on our squad next year. With the lack of tackle talent available, i could see someone ponying up quite a ransom for him. I personally want to keep him

Last season it was well documented that Cameron and Houck made him drop his weight to 325; down from 340 in 2006. This year he's listed at 350. I think he's lost a step or two because of the size increase. Obviously having 5 different players; Thomas, Ndukwe, Mathis, Alleman, and McChesney, having played, or currently playing next to him doesn't help either.

yeah, it's really only Marvel Smith and Vernon Carey who are going to be FAs. on the other hand, the draft class at OT is looking very good.

i don't know about Carey just yet. clearly, our FO is making all of the players earn their checks. i'd love to keep him here, but if wants elite OT money, i don't think he will be around.

vernon has got to get into better shape. hes always been a better pass blocker then run blocker, which is why i always thought he was better suited for LT, but now he is struggling in his pass blocking. if he doesnt improve the 2nd half of the season i dont know that i want to resign him for what he will probably command.

our oline is not a good run blocking oline. justin smiley is really the only good run blocker on our line right now. which worries me.

I've always been a huge proponent of Carey as a franchise tackle, because his production was incredibly solid over the past two years.

However, his play has dropped off considerably this year, especially in terms of his run blocking. For example, Ronnie averaged nearly 6 yards per carry running behind him last year, but those numbers have dropped off considerably for both Ronnie and Ricky.

I also saw something very disturbing this Sunday, on ESPN's "NFL Matchup" show (3am and 7:30am). They showed coaches film of Carey getting blown up and lifted off his feet and onto his back by a Seahawks defender. That should never happen to a franchise tackle.

Hopefully, Carey will find his groove in the final 7 games of the season. In the end, I'm sure that Parcells and company wll evaluate his play and make the right decision.
