Do you guys think we will meet Brees contract demands. If the CBA goes through we should be able to meet them financially, but the question is, will we? Brees strikes me as a player who wants to win first and is about money second. Does anyone know anything about the contract he was looking at in San Diego? Hopefully, he wanted out of that situation because of the Rivers thing instead of lofty contract demands. I think he deserves a good contract, after all he would be a piece that has been sorely missed. He deserves at least more than we were paying Frerotte or Feeley.

We have Mueller and Saban working on a contract. If Brees wants to be here and if we want him, they will figure something out, CBA or no CBA.

He is going to want a big contract, but we are going to have to give it to him. The days have come and gone of trying to save money at the Quarterback position.

as long as he is willing to take some sort of incentive based contract(due to the injury) i think we will be able to meet his needs..........if not then so long brees

I could see him signing a 5 year deal for about 45 million.

The situation with Brees is a slippery slope.

I hope we aren't forced to low-ball him because of the obvious reasons.

This is a good oppurtunity to land the QB we seek.

Given his injury, he'll likely have to sign a backloaded deal, with heavy incentives for 2006. I think we could make it work.

I heard Brees want 10 Mil guaranteed while SD, because of his recent injury, wanted an incentives based contract and they have been unable to meet in the middle at least as of yet. But this I remember reading 6 weeks ago so don't quote me.

My thought is the biggest thing he will be looking for is a long term deal. Throw something at him with 6 years written on it and we should be good.

Tie in the fact that Miami is a great location, the phins a team on the rise, and the fact that when big things do happen, everyone will look at Brees as the cog that started the championship wheels going (ala Tom Brady).

Im thinking that he will want a pretty good sized contract, but I think he will also want to go somewhere that he will be able to contend. We give him that, and with all the CBA going on, He might be willing to take a smaller contract. I think he wants to take a team all the way to kind of slap the chargers in the face for kinda screwing with him

I think Brees wants to play here, period and he will work something out, unless someone else offers him a ridiculous contract which i dont think will happen.

San Diego Tribune and OC Register are both stating here in Cali that he will be demanding 10.2MM singing bonus and a 5 yr 45MM deal from any team who will be pursuing him. Chargers will be making an offer to re-sign him in the up coming week. While he will be visiting the Dolphins, Packers, Lions, and Raiders. I feel whoever can reach his demand will sign him. Hopefully it will be us. But if not, saylavee:boohoo: and get ready for the Draft. Maybe LT21 (Chager fan regular on our boards) can shed some light on this.

He may be meeting with those teams, but the one thing that many people are forgetting is that he said that if he can't win a championship in SD, he'll go somewhere else to do so. Of all the teams that need a QB this offseason, the Miami job is clearly the best. The team is only a few pieces away from making a serious run, and Brees will want to be part of that. The Packers took tremendous steps last year, and there's still question about whether Favre will return. The Lions just got a new head coach, and they exercised Harrington's option. The Raiders just got Art Shell back but that team is missing several pieces before they can make a run. All those other options are just not as appealing. I think Brees signing with the Phins is a forgone conclusion.
