Do you think we'll meet Brees contract demands?

Think Olen Kreutz. He wants a big offer to leverage the Chargers into resigning him. However, If the Chargers have decided that Rivers is their guy, then I think he will be willing to come down off the astronomical numbers that have been mentioned

Brees will not be as expensive as you think.

1. ) He has already stated that he's fine with a 1 year deal with a 4 or 5 year option at the end of it.

2.) He has already stated he'll take 4-6 million guaranteed, as long as there are incentives which ups that.

His problem with the San Diego contract was never the length of the contract. It was with the guaranteed money for 2006 being offered.

Brees has publicly stated that he doesn't want to break the bank, he just wants a fair long term deal. I would guess 6 years 42 mil with a nice little signing bonus.

Im thinking that he will want a pretty good sized contract, but I think he will also want to go somewhere that he will be able to contend. We give him that, and with all the CBA going on, He might be willing to take a smaller contract. I think he wants to take a team all the way to kind of slap the chargers in the face for kinda screwing with him

I'm not so sure about the slap in the face thing, but perhaps...Brees wanted SD to say to him..."You are our franchise QB". They wanted to say..."You are our QB, for now, because we have your replacement sitting behind you...."

And the owner and AJ Smith were gettign tired of paying Rivers the big bucks for sitting behind Brees.

Here he would be "the Man". He fits what the mold of what Saban is trying to build here. He is a model citizen on and off the field...

The question is still his injury and how that could affect contract demands. While all the doctors and Brees and his agent are saying that he is ahead of schedule and all that, is he ?? Is that arm going to be able to come back ?? Will he take an incentive laden contract for the first year so that he can prove the arm will be back ?? But he'll want assurances that we won't go shopping again next offseason...Can we give him those assurances until we know how is arm is going to be ??

From NFL.com on what it may take to sign Drew-

"The deal will probably average just under $8 million per year for six years. The transition tag salary, which is the average of the top 10 quarterbacks, is $8.3 million. And if any team doesn't believe the salary will go this high probably needs to forget about Brees as an option. I would not be surprised if the team that wins his services will put a six-year deal together for $46.8 million with $15 to $16 million guaranteed. His first-year salary-cap charge should come in about $5 million. The reality of doing business at this level or higher will inevitably knock a number of teams out of contention."

A large signing bonus and up to 5 MIL a year is NOT unreasonable ....

As long as he gets a contract for at LEAST 6 years - it should work out.

If we are paying him 5 MIL - 6 years from now and he is still performing at his last 2 years level ... that will be a VERY GOOD deal for the PHINS !!!

Well, From Drew Brees prospective, its in Drew's best interest to sign with Miami. The Dolphin give him the best opportunity to suceed.
