I for one am hard pressed to dispel Miami right now after their Week 2 performance against the Colts.
Manning and his receivers torched our defense, but we all knew full well coming into this game that our secondary isn't a fixed unit yet. Manning opening up on it...that was to be expected and the outcome of him doing that was never doubted.
But dang...keeping him on the bench for as long as we did on offense...well that is special in many ways.
1) It proves we are a ball control offense. And though we lost this game, if we can continue to play like that, it will in the end wind up winning many more games for us than losing them.
2) Our Wildcat formations and our execution out of those formations are still the best in the league.
3) Pennington is still the man on 3rd down. What was our 3rd down percentage? Like 80%...right?
And on the defensive side of the ball:
1) Our run defense is adequate enough to win games.
2) Our special teams are adequate enough to win games.
3) Our secondary requires much improvement.
I do not see how fans can down-talk our teams performance after last night. And at 0-2, we're still in this fight for our division.
I'm calling these 1st two games warm up games. Our division record today is 0-0. There's still much to be hopeful about, but tempered with the understanding that we're still rebuilding this team and missing parts are hurting us.
