3 years $47 mill

Manny won't be going to LA now.

They won't pay Schmidt, Nomar, Pierre AND Manny in one offseason.

Thats fine with me the Dodgers still won't be able to score any runs, if Kent goes down again...

edit: meant to say Kent lol

Still I like this move.. It is much easier to swallow 3 years at 16mil. than a Barry Zito like deal that Boras will get.. Schmidt is a great NL pitcher, and bumping back all the other pitchers (Penny) will help them out.

Lee?

This is exactly what I thought the dodgers would do.

It's the same concept as the fucal deal

dam that alot of money. Hopefully he can be that ace we are looking for.

As a Giants fan it sucks that we lost him to the Dodgers but I'm glad we didn't pay him the money the Dodgers are cuz he's so injury prone. He's 33 with the right arm of a 40 year old.

For a three year contract, it's not bad. Anything more would have been too much. Schmidt's falloff in strikeout rate is very alarming for a power pitcher. Still, he should be good in 2007 and 2008. After that, who knows?

as a giant fan, screw schmidt. this pisses me off to no end. anyone but the dodgers. how can u pitch at pac bell and have the fan support and go to the dodgers. that is like zach thomas signing w/ the jets even though nfc teams were offering similar contracts. i loved smitty and now i hate him.

I really like Ned's thinking on some of the moves. Schmidt is worth the money (especially this offseason:shakeno:) in the early years, but he won't be in the later years. So ned will overpay by 1 or 2 mil per year, but keep the contract at 3 years. That way it doesn't become a burden like Kevin Brown did.
