... Sundays game has the possibilty to define the rest of our season? I mean this game is huge as far as story lines go, Parcells with his 3rd AFC East team, Pennington going up against the team that cut him in favor of Favre who came out of retirement. The Fins will come in pumped up, they have new life and a win (which by I think will be ours) will carry momentum throughout the rest of the season. This game I believe will show who we are from here on out. Besides, we lost 16 of the last 20, and it's about time we start beating these clowns.
Nice article by the way in the PBP about the rivalry.

The only thing that worries me is that the refs are going to favor Favre at every turn and make a lot of chintzy calls against us (like pass interference for instance)

Otherwise, we take the Jets easily in our house.

I agree with the OP, although I think a win would have more of an impact than a loss would, especially if they play good and lose a close one.

I think the game is more important for the Jesters, considering they have NE and SD the next two weeks. A loss to the Dolphins could realistically have them going 0-3 out of the gates, one can only hope, LOL.

GO PHINS~!

With a new regime, home field advantage and Pennington as the QB, this is must win game for the Dolphins. If they lose, the fan base and this board will revert back to the stone ages. The Dolphins have to win this game

Well I was just listening to Deion, post Giant/Redskins game and he pretty much let us Dolphin fans know we should expect to be competing for the number 1 overall pick again. So there you have it. Anyone think he's just slightly bitter we beat his Ravens last year??

A couple of wins will do wonders for all the negative commentary.... LOL.

No because there are 15 more games to play after this Sunday. Win or lose, you move on and get ready for the next game.

favre will give us all we can handle. i suggest everyone pray for a monsoon in this game.

I think a win sets our tone for the rest of the year...

Do you think if we won the first game last year against the Redskins that would have changed anything? I think so. I also think inside the other teams 40 with 3 time outs under two minutes we could have moved closer and won by a field goal. Cam blew that hard! This regime will feed us confidence and help us win those close games unlike last year!

I think we will win. The preseason record is not an indicator of how the season will go obviously, but what I noticed that I haven't seen in a few years is that we showed up to play. Especially the defense. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think our 1st string defense gave up any points against the first string offenses they faced. They showed up to win games that do not matter as far as the final standings go. So as far a the fan base and this board goes, if we show up flat and straight out lose, yeah will be back to the "geesh it's the same story again" attitude. You're right, this is a must win game.

I dont believe this a must win game, however I do believe this is a must play well game. We need to show up and play hard. If we go in there anoHd lose 20-17 with 5 sacks, stopping the run, no dumb turnovers I think we will all be happy with the progression. Remember we were 1-15 last year and most posters here believe we will win 6 to 8 games. I just want to see the team play hard with heart and I will be satisfied. However a win will be incredible and what it would do for this team could also b e incredible.

A couple of years ago there was a stat about the Super Bowl winning team always seeming to fail to win their season openers. I know the Colts changed that since they never lose in September, but if i remember correctly the Giants opened the season 0-2 last year.....

So basically NO the first game does not define a teams season.

I don't expect the Dolphins to contend for a playoff spot this year but the game is on a national stage and an impressive win by Miami will go a long way in putting Miami back on the NFL map. It certainly will shut up all those stupid so called professionals who said we have no chance of beating the Jets.

The main thing I want to see is an improvement over some of the issues that have plagued us for years like stupid penalties and turnovers. When we finally stop being our own worst enemy we will be a team to contend with.

No, not for us. For the Jets it would be devistating though...so I would love to see it for no other reason.

That being said, I just want to see steady progress through the season. I see the second meeting this year with the Jets as more important. The team should have gelled by then and we should be a much better team. At that point, the Jets may be going for the playoffs and I would just LOVE to make a statement by knocking them out of the playoff race in that last game.
