Can Rob Chudszinki lead?
Can he command a room full of men?
Can he motivate?
Can he hire a quality coaching staff?
This is a guy who does not have very many years in the NFL to network himself. Most of his time has been spent in San Diego under both Marty Schottenheimer and Norv Turner, and he likely didn't spend enough time under Marty to really network himself there. His biggest connection is probably through Butch Davis.
Much like other candidates, what those of you who support the idea of hiring Rob Chudzinski are doing is supporting an idea because he is an excellent x's and o's coach. I will certainly give him that, and at one point, I was on the Rob Chudzinski band wagon because I wanted his kind of outside the box thinking that goes against traditional NFL thoughts.
As I take a step back and look at the overall picture though, your ability as an x's and o's coach has very, very little to do with your ability as a head coach. If it did, then Cam Cameron would have been a great head coach for Miami.
When I look at Chud, I see a guy who bucked the traditional way of thinking in the NFL and took a quarterback who was always much better as a runner than as a passer and put him into a position to succeed. He gave him two man reads, half field reads, and mirror routes. He put him in spread formations and in the shot gun where he was comfortable. All of that was great, but it doesn't tell me that he can be a head coach.
I will agree with those who are asking why interview Mike McCoy and not Rob Chudzinski. I don't see it. IMO, McCoy is a guy that tried to run a little spread option, but it was obvious that he didn't embrace it and also didn't understand the full capabilities of the spread option. Mike struggled to counter when the opposition took away what was working.
