Does anyone think we are seriously considering Culpepper?

I find it very hard to believe that Nick would seriously consider Daunte based on the circumstances. First, the Vikes aren't allowing teams to give him a physical. Yeah, Saban is really going to go for that. I don't think that Nick is the kind of guy that would buy a car without test driving it first, do any of you? What are they hiding?

Secondly, they are asking for a 2nd round pick for him (let's go back to the No Physical limitation set by the Vikes). How can we possibly expect for Nick to not only make the Vikes an offer without having given him a physical, but to give up a SECOND round pick on top of that?!?! Nick isn't fond of giving up picks in the first place, much less a 2nd for damaged goods that he can't inspect. Just to remind everyone, we can't downgrade to a 3rd as we have no 3rd round pick this draft. So, unless the Vikes snap back into reality, I honestly don't see Culpepper being a realistic option for Saban and Co.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel the same way?

Thoughts? Comments?

Based on what you said there is no way Saban would even consider DC. He is not going to make this kind of deal without doing his investigation.

I would rather have a QB coming off a knee injury than a QB coming off an injury to his throwing shoulder.

even if the knee injury is 10 times worse?

you need your knees to throw the deep ball!!!

But the question is do you pull the trigger on a trade without knowing?

Culpepper's knee injury is 10x more serious than Brees's shoulder injury though. I mean seriously, kind of fishy that the Vikings wouldn't allow teams to give him a physical...

Well I know Daunte's injury is worse, but how do you know if Brees will be able to throw the ball as well? I would rather go for Daunte since the Phins will be able to pay him less. If we give Brees a huge contract and his arm isnt what it used to be, then we have a huge issue. I am just saying i would prefer Daunte over Brees since it seems like Miami is heading towards signing those two.

Even if Miami made the deal it would never go through the NFLPA without DC passing a Miami given physical or whatever team wanted to trade for him so Minny is being somewhat ridiculous not allowing one at this point.

I really don't believe that the Phins are considering Daunte. I think he is a pawn used to keep Drew and Tom in check during negotiations. If Drew and Tom believe that he is the only option, then Saban and Co. have zero leverage in talks. In my honest opinion, if we don't sign Brees, Nick will do his best to draft the future QB of this team. Again, that's just my opinion.

I agree!! I'm not so sure we really should be going after Brees until he proves he can actually throw. Isn't anyone else surprised Brees doesn't have more suitors? I mean Detroit, Arizona, Chicago, Jets, Cleveland, Minnesota, Oakland could all use a solid starter and yet there is nothing on them being interested in Brees.

Actually, a few of those were interested in Drew, just not enough to get into a bidding war.

I actually think you're on to something here. I also forgot that Culpepper has fired his agent and is planning on negotiating on his own behalf. As much as some people may dislike agents, I'm sure the FO would rather do a negotiation with a professional agent rather than a PO'd star athlete who has just finished some big time feuding with his current coach and GM.

Even though it would initially be a trade for Pep - the Dolphins would have to restructure his contract almost immediately. That thing is horribly backloaded.

I have to believe St. Nick has set a price limit and isn't going past that. I do believe by Brees not signing with New Orleans today that Saban has called their bluff. Brees doesn't want to play in NO. If he did he would have signed with the Saints today considering the upfront money they are offering.
