I'm not well versed in all the ins/outs of NFL salary but I'm assuming there must be some sort of relief once Delmas is cut.

He has a base of 1.475, roster bonus of 750k, and another 1.275 in incentives. This comes to 3.5 total. According to the link above 1.025 is dead money.

Does this free up 2 mil of cap space?

If so does that make Mathis' ~5 seem more doable?

We save about 2 million based off those numbers but I'd think they'd want to roll it over to help resign players next year. Big offseason for some young guys.

My point being is that they were planning on spending that 2 million this year. It's already been budgeted so they might not have been willing to spend 5 million more but now it would only be 3 million.

“@corryjoel: Louis Delmas has a preseason split in his one year deal with Miami. His base salary is $413,000 instead of $1.475M because the torn ACL.”

We need a FS. Anyone comfy with Aikens?

As a FS, yes.
As a leader of the secondary, no.

Reshad Jones needs to step the hell up in that department, and it's never been his strong suit.

Really sorry to lose Delmas, no matter how well Aikens plays, we lost huge leadership once Delmas went down, but Aikens will make the loss feel less painful, and with Aikens we will get better pass-coverage.

Aikens has been playing strong safety in camp. Thomas is backup FS, but the way he gets burned deep, I'd prefer Aikens anyway.

Good lord I am sick of hearing about Mathis

Me too!

The really odd thing is, people keep acting like he'd be a good guard for us.

I mean, hell - the guy had one hit - 9 years before the Dolphins franchise even existed.

Wrong Mathis buddy... They mean Judge Mathis:

Hard nosed in the courtroom and the gridiron

This has nothing to do Aikens or whether you are in favor of Mathis or not. Just seeking info on Dolphins cap situation and whether this makes any impact on influencing Dolphins willingness to use remaining cap space to improve the team

Yes, it will free up some money. I also think that the FO will use that money. They have built a really solid team and I would expect they will try to find a way to make it better if there is an option on the table.
