Perhaps one of the most curious aspects of Philbin's tenure as head coach has been his apparent lack of a relationship with any members of the team on a personal level.
It is even more curious when you consider he apparently quite good personal relationships with numerous members of the Packers - relationships that he maintains even today. You could really see it before the Packers game with the warm embraces he gave several Packers players, including Rodgers.
I can't think of a single moment where it seemed Philbin was chummy with a Dolphkns player - not on the sideline, not on Hard Knocks, not in post game victory locker room scenes, not once.
It's already evident he has a frayed relationship with his starting QB. There is no love lost between the 2 as both have openly criticized each other. You hardly see them speak during games.
Contrast this with other successful coach / QB pairings, and this lack of personal relationships between coach and players is quite stark. You could tell even in this game that McCarthy and Rodgers enjoyed a bond of some sort. Brees and Payton appear to have a great relationship. Same with Wilson and Carrol.
Even the much maligned Jim Harbaugh appears to have some relationship with Kaep and players on the team.
I understand that not ever coach is a players coach, but Philbin is taking it to another level. And it's just so weird because he was a players coach in GB...
