I say no b/c they forced rivers down his throat, he always wanted Brees. The guy had an amazing year with a great team. Bellichik finds a way to do it every year and this year Marty was his victim.
I wouldnt want him as our coach though b/c we need to go young.

That's true, no one really mentions the Brees situation. Imagine how good the Chargers would have been this year with Brees.

he shouldnt be fired. but he or aj smith must go.

You can't run a business where 2 of the top guys just flat out won't even talk to each other!!

He doesnt deserve to be fired, but he probably wants to be at this point anyway. Him and AJ Smith have probably had enough of each other anyway.

As for the Brees situation, Brees would not have had the same kind of year he did in New Orleans. L.T. is and forever will be the man in San Diego.

Speaking of which, i feel terrible for L.T. He's done all he can do.

Marty also handpicked Rivers as his QB a few years ago before the draft. I don't think Marty can really complain, he got a great season out of Rivers and will get more. The Chargers lost that game because they were inept, and they let the Patriots get back in a game they shouldn't have been in. I can see why Marty should be fired because he didn't get his team ready to play in the 4th quarter.

Can't blame the man for fumbles. He did make a dumb challenge wasting what would have been a very important timeout though. He can get a team to the playoffs but seems to be jinxed. No candidate for our coaching job is really standing out. If we ended up with him at least we can get to playoffs. With the new guys who knows what we'll get. He commands respect and is a good teacher of the game. I honestly don't know who to back for the job but this guy already has shown the ability to get there. That is half the battle and maybe better than a unknown quantity in the end.

I think AJ Smith drafted Rivers, I don't think Marty was openly campaigning for him. I could be wrong.

They drafted Manning and traded for Rivers

The Chargers have the best team I have seen in a long time. You may disagree with me, but I cannot remember this much offensive and defensive talent put together.

Offense: Tomlinson, Neal, Rivers, McNeill, Gates, McCardell, and a very underrated offensive line (won't help to name them, no one recognizes them).

Defense: Castillo, Jamal Williams, Olshansky, Phillips, Merriman, Edwards, Jammer, McCree, Cromartie.

The only weaknesses I see in the entire team are at RCB and #1 WR. You put a FA WR on this squad and heads will roll.

So, that's a roundabout way of saying yes, this is a Dungy situation where he needs to go. They have too much talent to lose. They need to keep the personnel guys and the offensive coordinator and fire the guy making the game and clock management decisions. The cart's full of good food and the chefs inside are professional, but no one's unloading the groceries...

Obviously, but they knew they weren't keeping Manning when they made the pick. I'm just asking who wanted Rivers, Smith or Marty? I'm pretty sure it was Smith.

It's pretty common knowledge that Schottenheimer was mancrushing on Rivers after the senior bowl, which he got to coach. Roethelisberger was the second rated QB that year yet he was drafted after Rivers, who went to the Giants at number 4, because the Giants took him planning to package him to SD, who they knew wanted Rivers but took Manning because of his value (A smart move, in hindsight). Nobody had Rivers actually being worth the number 4 pick, nor Roethelisberger falling behind him like that.

Rivers isn't the problem with this team though.

Hopefully he's not caned too hard. He's getting up there in age.

I recall the senior bowl and Marty gushing over rivers as well.
