Does Parcells like Beck or is he......

i herad beck played for a guy that parcells knows so thats in favor of beck so far.

I think Beck will be our future QB, but I do believe that Ireland and Parcells is going to want to bring in a veteran to mentor him. He's not Peyton that you can throw into the Lion's Den and expect him to rise to the top.

John Beck is going to be our quarterback, no ifs ands or buts about it.
Aquaman,i know why i like you now, because we often agree.

Jonny beck showed me somethin in that last game, i saw a kid with a picture perfect lightning delivery that was as smooth as a babys behind, the man is fearless and plays with a sense of urgency that i love.

we lost that game but i was excited as hell, because i saw what i wanted to see.

I think beck was a big mistake i sure hope im wrong.

I think there's something to be said of the Lee signing. I think they're eager to get in and get a good feel for Beck before the draft. If they like what they see, he's the plan. If they don't we'll draft one and sign a FA. Personally, I think we'll bring in a journeymen but Beck is the future plan, JMO.

That's exactly the way I see it too. Next year he will be leading a non-imploding team and you'll (we'll) see even more.

New Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland says that while scouting for Dallas prior to last year's draft, he "absolutely" formed a high opinion of John Beck.

My two cents are on John Beck, but he needs to be pushed in order to improve.
Also Sparano will draft his own guy, a second day QB, who will be a safety net in case of Beck's failure.
Cleo Lemon is the easy solution if price goes to high on FA QBs, but let me point that it seems very improbable he could win the starting at any other team, and that said, HE MUST GO in order to improve the position.
So, another tale is that if there's a chance to hire a FA like Billy Volek (if he don't re-sign with the Bolts), Rex Grosman (Bears seems unhappy about him) or Derek Anderson (I know he's an expensive one, but a trade may happen, Cleveland wont' match a big offer for Anderson, having Brady Quinn) or Brady Quinn himself (it's a more complicated deal, but a feasible way to make it work is that Cleveland gets in return our top pick, and they compensate with BQ and some late round extra pick). Any of them upgrades the QB position, opening a healthy competition with Beck.

John was playing versus a team willing to make some spotlight, but not in a playoff berth, so that game may not be a good parameter to analyze his real value.

I think Parcells and Sparano will evaluate Beck during training camps, anyway, they won't cut him, and the roster needs to add a QB or two anyway.

i hear drew brees and culpepper are available... i bet this regime would make the right call.

but no seriously, im excited to see what these guys do to this team.

Who knows. There is no way to get a complete gauge on Beck based on the few games he played. There were positives and negatives. There are sure to be some concerns about, if nothing else, his age. It's not like he's ancient, but his window for development is much smaller than is a typical rookie QB. That's something that the new regime will have to consider.

A couple of hypotheticals:

1) Beck works out for Sparano and Lee. They like what they see. They like his maturity and feel that he has the ability to be a good leader. They see some flaws but they are correctable. They watch game film and see flashes of what they think will be a good, solid QB in the immediate future. They conclude that he can be the man sooner than later and feel that bringing in a veteran as a backup will be the way to go.

OR

2) John Beck comes in and works with Sparano & Lee. They watch film on him and see flaws that he needs to work on. They see a guy who has some skills, but determine that it could take 3 years before he reaches what they feel will be the level of an effective QB. They are not even certain that he will ever reach what they deem as acceptable level of play. They go to Parcells and Ireland with this information. Ireland and Parcells then determine that, since Beck will be 30 before they might reap any good production from him. That gives them, based on the average career, 5-6 years out of their QB should he even develop. They come to the conclusion that they'd prefer to invest those three years into someone younger who can develop and give them 10 or so years of service.

So anyway, there are possibilities both ways. There is no way for us to base Beck's future on what he did in the last game. There is no way for us to fairly judge Beck in the first two games because of the conditions he played in. And the two games in between weren't that great.

Certainly, he'll be on the roster in 2008. What he does from here remains to be seen. There is just no way to predict it. I'm not ready to hand the keys to the franchise over to him. I'm also not short-minded enough to say he is a bust. (That would be completely unfair). It's going to come down to what the new sherriffs feel is best for the team. They may, if only because of all the other holes on the team, give him another season before deciding on drafting a QB. Or they may say we've seen enough on game and practice film to know this is not our guy and draft a QB. It's just way to unpredictable right now.

As I said over on Celtkin in a similar topic: Beck is going to head into training camp as our number two QB behind an as-yet-unsigned veteran FA and in front of a newly-drafted number three rookie QB. Beck is going to have this offseason to prove himself to Sparano, Ireland and Parcells. If he doesn't, number two is where he'll stay for the rest of the season and then he'll be cut at the end of the season. They MIGHT cut him in the preseason if whichever rookie they draft shows promise, but likely they'll keep him on through the next season.
It's not fair to him since he hasn't had time to develop, but historically when a new coach/GM comes in, the QB drafted by the previous regime either proves himself PDQ or he's gone.
