Excerpts from the Miami Herald

''You watch him in the morning and he's going from guy to guy, looking in people's eyes,'' fullback Heath Evans said.

''I call it the brook-trout look,'' Saban said. ``Have you ever caught a fish and you look at him and he just looks
like he has nothing. The eyes are just kind of blank.
``I saw that look out there today. Basically what it means is that you don't have the eye of the tiger -- you're not ready to do what you have to do and something is beating you up out there. You can't let that happen.''

Never heard this particular detail scrutinized by either of the past two head coaches, and yet failing to recognise it, could go far to explaining the perplexing results, of so many of our late season inexplicable meltdowns.
Particularly the 03 season crushing loss to the Eagles, ultimately blamed on "leadership", or lack thereof.

Thoughts?

There is no doubt.

Didn't Saban major in psychology? The eyes are the windows of your mind!

 I think you are right

This is why Saban will bring us back to glory - and I'm talking, old-time early 70s glory!

He knows how to motivate people. More importantly, he knows how to find people that CAN be motivated in the first place, thus dispatching those who cannot. This talent of his - above all else, above his game plan abilities, etc. - is what will help him build a great team!

Just remember - Saban is the guy that genious Belicheck seeks advice from! Maybe we're starting to learn why!

Yep, I noticed that in both preseason games, AJ didn't have "the eye of the tiger" that the other QBs did. There is a determination on the faces of the other QBs as they step on the field, that I've never seen from AJ. Counting last year in actual games.

Vickerson and Wright are one thing, they are rookies, that is a good thing, they can be molded, they are waiting to have the input, which is a good thing.

A.J., Lee, and Thompson are another. But, I cant truly fault any of them either. The lack of proper coaching the time they have spent in Miami, has been horrendous. Saban and the staff can work with that too.

I bet Saban statement was pointed directly at Wanny, with out his name being mentioned. I bet it was a frustration thing with Saban. He is a good coach, and I bet he just cant believe how hosed the team is, now he realized it's a bit bigger project then he first thought. LOL.

Give it some time, catching giys up to speed after their, one, two or three years in Miami, with the previous regime, you cant expect these guys to have proper fundamentals, when they have never been properly taught the fundamentals fo great football play. Just look to the OL, for your proof.

I just hope Saban keeps the fire, and instills it in the boys. It will be very hard to get the fire to spread, but once it does, it will be contagious.

Kinda reminds you of a closed-mouthed JJ doesn't he ??

Wanny had the brook trout look, how is he supposed to inspire others?.

This team needs an image change and I think Saban is the right guy for the job. Remember how teams used to crack on us all the time? Our jerseys, the december swoons, our crappy offense and ricky situation. Thats all going to change.
