Zounds said:Both cornerbacks and safteys play slot depending on offensive formation. Lots of west coast style offenses have the slot receiver in motion on pasisng down, which makes it impossible to predetermine who covers the slot when the defensive play is called.
Zounds said:yep, he was an outside guy, and in west coast offenses, many times there are two slot receives on one side and sometimes no wideout at all. And you will see many plays where the slot goes out and the WR runs in....meaning Sam would pickup the "outside" guy, who is the slot receiver.
and i watched all Miami games
Zounds said:I understand what a slot reciever is, but a slot received can be the outside guy if there is no WR lined up on that side, or if thier routes cross. The position is defined by where the receiver lines up on the line of scrimmage. If the slot reciever runs out, and the WR runs in, the WR gets dumped to the saftey and the CB takes the slot. Happens all the time. Watch closer.

Zounds said:Yes he is an outside receiver, but he is still called the "slot" receiver, even if he runs outisde, and Sam does cover these guys all the time. Like I said, "slot" is defined by where you line up at the line of scrimmage, not what routes you run.
