I've felt that we needed to go offense heavy in the draft even before the Suh talk and with full knowledge that the defense was on the verge of collapse. My thought process was that if we were going to lose and be crummy, I'd rather it be with high scoring, fun to watch games than the drudgery we have endured for a decade plus. It's time for the pendulum to swing to the offense being the dominant part of the team.

But now with the imminent (HOPEFULLY) Suh signing, do you think the FO's thought process is to fit his dominant presence on the D in order to cover up some of its other deficiencies so that they can focus on the O during the draft?

How does Suh impact the draft strategy for the Dolphins?

We still need LBs and DBs.

Heck, I think we still need more DL also.

The secondary cupboard is fairly bare. We'll have to take someone in the draft.

We still have some very problematic holes at OL. Certainly, we need to get better at the G position AND we better have a plan for LT. Relying on Albert coming back 100% ready to go is not only stupid but extremely dangerous.

Absolute NEED Positions:
CB
LB

NEED Positions:
G
LT
WR

Others...

I think the goal is to have a well balanced football team. The recipe for success is being good on both sides of the ball. On offense you need to be explosive and that's why I see us drafting a receiver with our first pick. I think with our second and third picks we go Linebacker and Corner Back to fill holes behind Suh. After those those two defensive picks I'd like to see us go back to the offensive side of the ball and grab a RB and offensive lineman. To answer your question, I think we'll go offense early to get the most bang for our buck. We need a player who can make plays... that's why Devante Parker would be my pick. I think this will be a pretty balanced draft though.

I am not counting on Suh just yet. People chasing Yahoo sports tend to be disappointed.

I'd like to get two CB's out of this draft. Thanks Jeff Ireland.

We need a Mike and we need secondary help.

I think Miami grabs one of those mid tier veteran free agent WRs "after" the initial free agency push . . . probably get him at a discount. Miami will also draft a WR in the first 2 days of the draft.

I am not as worried about the oline. We'll draft a guard and/or tackle somewhere in the draft . . . maybe look at some versatility veteran options . . . but it won't be a huge push. Miami has 3 cornerstones on the line already and will put faith into Billy Turner to lock down a guard spot. They'll figure out what to do at the other guard spot, whether it's Smith, a free agent . . . somebody will step up and take the job. This line wasn't that bad when guys were healthy.

RB is deep in this draft . . . we'll take one somewhere in this draft. Not a big deal.

TE is set with Clay/Sims/Lynch

We'll look at a backup QB potentially on day 3 or a cheap veteran.

The offense really doesn't need that much addressing tbh. The defense on the other hand, we need starters and depth at the moment . . . especially in the secondary. We are super thin back there. I feel we are drafting at least 2 secondary guys and probably bringing in at least 2 in free agency.

If your DL is a disruptive dominant force (as it should be with Suh, Vernon and Wake) you don't need great CBs. It will make the secondary look so much better than the talent would deem it because QBs would be slinging it up for grabs just to avoid the rush...

I certainly wouldn't use 2 picks on CBs this year...

1st round = WR or CB
2nd Round = LB or WR
3rd = CB or G or RB
4th = G
5th - 7th = special teams

How does Suh impact the draft strategy for the Dolphins?

Yes...absolutely.

I have thought all along you were going to have to use your first round pick on a DT to get a good one.....Suh eliminates that.

Also...the other reports coming out are pointing at defense....corners and a defensive end as interests in free agency.

With a load of receivers and runningbacks in this draft it may the thinking.

Not to mention 2 elite backs in Gurley and Gordon.

Three approaches for me.....

Either finally sort the OL. Won't be popular but we need help on the inside of the OL.

Or, strengthen the spine of the defense. With Suh plugging the middle of the line, look for ILB or Safety help to make running on us an absolute nightmare. Make offenses go one dimensional.

Or, playmakers on offense. A bona fide #1 WR. Man, I'd love to see Tannehill with a guy who'll go up and catch everything on intermediate to deep throws.

So if we sign Suh, Robinson, and Jenkins (just say we do), I'd look at the draft like this:

1st round: Are one of the elite edge rushers available? If Beasley, Dupree, and Gregory are off the board (also throw Shane Ray's name into that hat), I'd turn my focus to OL or WR. If Cooper or White are available, I go WR. If not, I look to see if La'el Collins or Jake Fisher are available. If not, I look at Parker and DGB (DGB is obviously a wildcard). If none of those players are available, I look at Kevin Johnson.

In general, I'm not concerned with filling immediate needs with the 1st round pick. I'm more concerned with drafting the best talent at premium positions. I'd look to fill holes in rounds 2 and 3. For the Mike, specifically, I'm looking at Mike Hull in the 3rd - assuming Kendricks isn't there at 47. At CB, if I miss out on Kevin Johnson and Jalen Collins, I'm looking at Eric Rowe, Bobby McCain, and Justin Coleman as guys with the physical tools to start as rookies - and each can play the slot or boundary. At RB, I'm looking for value, and I think J. Allen from USC is currently the most undervalued RB in the draft. He's got great feet, good size and speed, and he's a 3-down back.

In terms of the positions we target, the draft should be pretty even. WR, OL, CB, RB, LB, DE/edge (because you always draft to the strength of the board, and it's the best position in the draft his year). If I miss out on the top edge guys, I like Frank Clark as a late-round pick. I know he's a prick, but his talent is worth the gamble - especially when he's being projected in the 7th or UDFA.

If We could sign a Guard in FA , And then draft a receiver in the first And Corner or linebacker in the second ...... Ill considere this off Season a B+ or A for this front office . Going into the Season that is .
