Im thrilled we are signing Suh but what impact will it have on Tannehills extension? I know this article is by JLC but it did make me nervous. We FINALLY have a QB & I don't want to wait for 10 more years for another one. I'm a big believer in Tannehill & want to see him locked down soon so I was hoping someone on here can explain to me how the Find can make it work with Suhs contract.

Why? Management knows the QB needs a new deal, they already factored this in the planning of pursuing Suh

No, there is a franchise tag and basically we are going to feel it next year IMO by cutting Wallace & probably Mitchell IMO but i am more worried about Vernon because i really dont know where his market would be if he were to test it and we might not be able to bring him back

Maybe it prevents them from doing it right now (I don't know). But I do know there's no way in hell a team would let a QB like Tanne walk so I'm not worried about it.

The only impact would be in structure. The Fins would structure a longterm Tannehill deal so where the bigger cap hits work the best in regards to the Suh contract.

But money wise, there is no effect.

We have 2 years before he becomes a free agent. No rush on Ryan at all. He needs to get over those 8 wins this year.

No worries. RT will get his new contract.
The opportunity to get Suh presented itself. The team made a decisive move.
I am not worried about it.

They are fine. They are so far under the cap next and we are not even talking about releasing Wallace, maybe Wake and/or Miko.

The team is fine.

Thanks for passing along the info, I know JLC is just trying to add drama to the Suh signing but did make me a little nervous.

They got Suh because of Tannehill not to spite him IMO. Tannehill is most likely grinning ear to ear over Suh.

Tannehill is going to demand a large contract this day and age where Andy 2.0QBR Dalton gets a 100 million. So make his earn it and get over that 8-8 hump.

Tannehill is tough (as evidenced by all of the sacks that he's survived), and he racked up a lot of yards behind a porous o-line. But, most of those yards came from short, high-percentage throws. Did the offense playcalling shorten the field because of the poor o-line play, or because Tannehill is no good at throwing downfield? I'd have to see what he could do behind a "real" o-line, see him be able to score quickly from anywhere on the field (I believe his stats are terrible for TD passes from outside the red zone), and see him get better in the final minutes of a game instead of worse before I'd give him a big contract.

Dalton got $17 mill guaranteed. It wasn't a big contract by any means

Need to look at the bigger picture on a new Tannehill deal. He is under contract this year on his rookie deal. A new contract will be a low cap hit in 2016, with the big hits starting in 2017. What happens by then?

The salary cap goes up by $20M.

Wallace, at $12M a year, will be gone this year or next year.

Wake and Grimes are very likely gone. That's another $20M a year.

Albert, at $10M a year, could also be gone.

That's a total of $60M a year we will have by 2017.

There is no problem at all for RT's new deal.
