I know Tannehill threads are in quite the abundance lately, however, I've started to ponder this question...
"Does Tannehill Even Have The Opportunity To Succeed?"
What we are asking Tannehill to currently do is pretty damn demanding when put in perspective with what we have. I've posted this in a few other threads but with many calling for a change at QB, we need to be clear of what we are currently asking that QB to come in and do...
1) Be able to overcome terrible coaching with equally terrible play calling (hopefully Tannehill outlives this)
2) Be in an offensive scheme where you have zero freedom to audible out in and out of plays
3) Be stuck behind an offensive line that cannot provide solid protection and delivers little to no time to throw
4) Be consistently durable as you are going to take a lot of hits
5) Be a part of an offense with zero presence of a run game
6) Be completely aware that you are expected to pour on points because your defense doesn't have the ability to stop your opponent
What I get from this is that you're expected to consistently perform to an elite level in a completely one dimensional offensive scheme that has no defense to take the pressure off of the offense all the while being completely handcuffed. Defenses can pinpoint your strength and exploit it because it is all you can offer. Mistakes made are magnified and put additional pressure.
I'm not saying that every team doesn't have to face adversity like these circumstances in some way shape or form...
I am also not saying that anyone can effectively deny that he isn't struggling right now. Everyone here is at least aware that he misses throws (it's not exactly a secret as the naysayers would probably like to think of it...)
However, as many want him gone and many want him to stay, can anyone truthfully say that he is the reason we are losing games and looking as bad as what we are? Is he helping the situation? Not really. However, does bringing in anyone else solve our problems? Cast us out of this funk we are in?
Since when has Tannehill balling out ever been able to overcome our defense? It never happened last year to my knowledge. Do I dare bring up the Detroit game again? Green Bay? Denver?
I'm sure many see things differently, however, to me it seems as though he is being put through the wringer, getting the s*** knocked out of him constantly, all for something that has never really mattered in the past.
It's either going to end in one of three ways...
1) He eventually gets the help he needs that will allow him to grow as a player
2) Things will continue until he gets hurt and we understand these things to be true by someone else coming in with zero change
3) He is traded off
At this point, I'd rather see him traded off so he at least has the chance to be successful somewhere else that understands the importance of a solid line. Because if not, option 2 is a strong front runner and we can all at least probably agree that under this regime, number 1 isn't going to happen...
