First off this isn't a Henne bashing thread, I hope he takes us where we want to go. With that being said, I read a lot on here and the media how well he is playing. While I think he has shown great presence, there are a lot of concerns to me.

1st, he has a 61% completion rate, which is bad. This is in line with his college % too.

2nd, he has under a 6 yard per completion average, this is horrible!

3rd, he has played quite a bit and yet to score a TD. He even had our #1 team O against Jax reserves.

4, he stares down his receivers. He can get away with this in the pre season with his arm. Come regular season, no way.

These are just a few things that have me worried a bit, especially if Penny goes down. I do like his leadership and his this is not to big for me attitude though. Any thoughts?

It's callled being a freaking rookie...he is learning a whole new offense. If this was his 4th year in the league, then we would have a problem with these numbers....JUST CHILL!

Since when is a 61% completion rate "bad"? I thought that was pretty good.

Dan Marino had a career 59.4% completion rate, he was a pretty good QB. :D Tom Brady's is just slightly better at 63%, he's pretty good too.

Um maybe take your own advice? Chill? 67 asked for thoughts, not rants.

When they say he's playing well they mean for his tenure in the NFL, not for a seasonerd veteran. He still has a lot to learn. Give the kid some time. As for the completion % I wouldn't worry about it now. It's preseason, you don't know how much is dropped passes or miscomunication, or just his fault.

In a nutshell, completion rate of 60+% is not bad.

Henne is NOT afraid to throw it down the field.

Henne's footwork and pocket presence are top notch.

He makes quick reads and will key on that receiver if he thinks he had an advantage to begin with. But I have seen him scan the ENTIRE field at other times looking right, then middle, then left...all while moving around smoothly in the pocket.

He is the real deal. I am not worried.

The only one that concerns me is #4, and that only concerns me a little. He’s a rookie so I am going to say his low ypc is due to being uncomfortable in a faster game. In truth I think the YPC should go up as time goes on.

As someone else mentioned Marino's pct was never high but we were all happy with him however when you pair the pct with a low YPC then you have a bit of a problem in fact you start getting fans frustrated quickly.

II also think when the ypc goes up the touchdowns will come naturally. Of course this is if he develops and it takes time for him to get really up to NFL speed.

The only reason #4 (staring down his primary receiver) would concern me is that it can become a habit. And once you go there your interception rate will go up. Let’s just hope he gets a little more comfortable before it becomes a very nasty habit.

Oh and of course as we both know- the above will take patience and unfortunately that is not something that a lot of dolphin fans dole out willingly

Marino was consistantly above 7 yards per catch too. I think a few of you guys are taking this as a bash, and not a discussion. Reeeeee lax:up:

I think its a little early for threads like this. Henne is coming along great, but hes still a rookie.

60 is a good percentage, especially for a rookie. Rookies dont typically throw td's in the preseason, they usuaully throw INT's. Henne hasnt done that so thats been impressive.

I never took it as a bash, there are concerns- and you are right you should have pennington type percentage with such low ypc numbers. But we dont want to fall into the trap a lot of the Henne followers take- because rookie numbers do not matter

And hopefully Ginn will smack Henne in the head and say "Stop staring at me"

If all goes well In a year or two we might have our 3rd probowl quarterback on our team

:woot:

Not every rookie can match Edwards 75% comp and 100 rating in the preseason.

I'm not concerned at all.
1. 61%? Many NFL quarterbacks would kill for that percentage.
2. His ypc numbers will go up as he gets more comfortable with this offense and the speed of the NFL. Right now, he's still learning to eliminate some of the throws he made in college that are dangerous in the NFL. Once he learns that, then he will be more comfortable throwing downfield.
3. Yeah, putting the team in the endzone is the ultimate goal, but that's on the entire offense. It will happen.
4. I really haven't seen him stare down receivers. If he is, it will get better with time. Henne showed good ability in college to move the coverage with his eyes and then throw to the open spot. Once he gets more comfortable with what he's doing in the offense, then he'll start to manipulate the defense more. Peyton Manning wasn't exactly fooling anyone his rookie year. It takes a little time.
