Does Weiss have an angle?

After hearing his glowing reports about about Quinn (who I love as a prospect btw) I am beginning to question WHY he is pushing so hard for Quinn.

Do you REALLY think he believes Quinn is as good as he says? Or is he looking at recruiting for the future?

Notre Dame is doing fine..not great, but fine. I think Weiss will turn them into the perennial powerhouse that the used to be. BUT to do that he's going to need great great players. He currently has a has-been college program that is good, but needs to raise their overall talent bar.

I acknowledge that Weiss has a lot of things a recruit would look at...
1. Major success in the NFL
2. A pro-style offense
3. Historically impressive football program
4. Brady

Is he trying to add "I can personally inflate the draft value of my players" to that list?

You may have a point. On the other hand it may just be something as innocent as, perhaps he feels some kind of fatherly love for the young man he worked with over these past few years. You know how dads are, psuedo dads can be the same. "My son can do no wrong" and all that rot. Maybe a little of both and some other motivations as well.

That's something that a lot of people who are opposed to drafting Brady have brought up, and in most cases I would agree with them, because most college coaches do talk up their players. However, this is an interesting case because Weis is a well respected NFL mind who may still have some desire to coach in the NFL again (he has an out clause for the Giants, his dream NFL job). This leads me to believe that he wouldn't go all out supporting a player and making all of these comments if he didn't believe them, because you would think he would try to hold onto his NFL cred in case an opportunity arises in the future.

Well, when high school kids see or hear how hard he is pushing for Quinn, he can make a pitch to them when he's recruiting in the future: "I will push just as hard for you down the road to all the people I used to work with in the league". Also, the higher Quinn is drafted, the more impressive it is to the high schoolers out there who dream of playing in the NFL. On top of all that, I'm sure he just wants the best for Quinn after coaching him for the last couple years.

There is no doubt that Weiss has a great deal to gain from touting Quinn. It helps him in recruiting. And it even helps him if Quinn is a complete bust b/c then he could imply that better coaching is what made Quinn successful.

I would think that it's quite obvious that it's in both Charlie Weiss's and the University of Notre Dame's best interests to be drafted high and to be successful in the NFL...

Without a doubt. Quinn and Weis are two of the best self promoters in the game. They have done a masterful job of conning some people, who otherwise, are quite bright football analysts. The comparisons to Tom Brady are what really make me laugh. I do give them credit, however, for manipulating the argument in such a manner so as to make the comparison even more beleivable. You've heard it many times that Quinn has the intangibles that Brady possesses, and that are so critical to a QB's success. I do agree that it is Tom Brady's intangibles that have made him successful, however, I find no such evidence in Brady Quinn. Tom Brady's greatest gift- and he has many- is his uncanny ability to make the big play at the big moment. Brady Quinn? Well, he hasn't quite done that yet has he?
The other piece missing from the argument is that, yes while I'll admit Weiss was important to Tom Brady in his development, I think his influence is grossly overestimated. Tom Brady would never say so -they are close- but any reasonable football fan can understand/see the difference in Tom Brady with Weis at the helm and once he left.
The ranking system and Bowl system in college football is an utter joke. Programs like Notre Dame are the biggest benefactors of said system. It will never change though because of the almighty $. As a result, you can count on morre hype for Notre Dame and its players.

It is obvious, the question is how much of his talk is Genuine? And how much is him inflating his value?
