20+ years ago, not long after college I took job transfer to Miami FL. I'm from the west coast & will never forget the heat that first day stepping off the plane. It was the roaring 80's. The Beach was still a mess after the Mariel boatlift. I drove a rental car into little Haiti and thought I was in a foreign country.
What a great time. Went to many Dolphin games at the Orange Bowl. Saw Dan throw to Duper and Clayton, the 85 season. Funny how you remember little things, I once met "Dolfan Denny" what a weirdo. I remember driving over Venetian Way on the beach side there was a street called "San Marino Drive" and someone changed the letters of all the signs to read Dan Marino. :cooldude:
I bet the dogs and horses. Hard to believe I know - but this used to be very popular in South Florida... Played the dogs at Flagler, Hollywood and the old Biscayne Kennel Club in Miami Shores. In winter we used to hit Gulfstream by day, and Hollywood dogs at night. One season I rented a beach house at Hallandale. I also had a condo right in Miami near 195 and an apartment in Hollywood. Licensed commodities broker at one point, Coral Gables... I finally moved back West in the early 90's, currently in Oregon.
I miss South Florida and hope to return some day. Lots of memories. I met Dolphins RB Ron Davenport and hung out at a party one time, he was cool. Goes back a ways huh? A co worker and good friend of mine, was the girlfriend of Mike Dokes the former Heavyweight Champ, out of Ft Lauderdale... Dynamite Dokes, man, he was the best.
On the NFC side I have followed Seattle and also Detroit from my ex wife who was born and raised there. However AFC I'll always be a dolfan even though live closer to Seahawk country now :-) I think Miami is going to WIN the division this year under Nick! Go Phins!
Love this board!! Great job fellas :cooldude:
