I admit it; the Fins have turned me into a total pessimist over the years. I have extremely low expectations for them. Don't give me this new coach nonsense, new offensive or defensive system. I've seen it all before and it blew up in our faces. To sum up:

Don Shula-Couldn't put together a defense or running game to support Marino. The game had seemed to pass him by
Jimmy Johnson-Former UM championship coach, winner of Super Bowls in Dallas. We were very excited, didn't turn out well
Dave Wanstead-Jimmy's handpicked guy. Still failed
Nick Saban-Successful college coach, really thought he could get us over the hump, no suck luck
Cam Cameron-Just lol
Bill Parcells/Tony Sporano-I really had high hopes here. A guy that built franchises back like NE and the Jets. Really was crushed by their play
Joe Philbin-By now, I had almost lost all hope and never expected much, but was slightly optimistic. Silly me
Adam Gase-What has he got to make me believe any better?

Sorry my optimistic fans, but this is where I stand. I love the Fins and sure hope I am wrong.

Take it easy.

We could be the Browns, Lions, etc.

Or, God forbid, Patriots fans.

We have a pedigree. We have a history. Yeah, it hurts. A lot.

But that's when you find out if you're really a fan. Lots of Patriots "fans" here in Iowa anymore.

I fail to see any link between any of these coaches and any of the others.

Tho I see that Shula and Gase are on the outside edges. Maybe that makes them the same? :idk:

If you can't be optimistic now w/ camps opening up when can you be? we have no idea how any of our tams will do but we should all be feeling good, excited and optimistic about this season.

Grew up in Iowa talk about a lot of Bandwagon fans, I never seen a single pats fan they were all Cowboys fans growing up then Pats became relevant and bandwagons switched.

when you win that happens, I grew up around cowboys, dolphin, steeler, raider fans here in NY.

Well, I have been, am, and will always be an optimist.

Every year begins anew with hopeful beliefs, and great excitement, that this year is the year that the move the team made will be enough to turn this team into theearly 80s 49ers, late 90s Rams, or early 2000s Patriots, teams that nobody expected much from, only to find out a dynasty was in the making (Well, not so much with the Rams, but during those years, they were the team to beat each year).

The Dolphins are undefeated right now dam it!!!

Oh yea I don't disagree every team has bandwagon fans as they start to win but go to a state with no team and you see it even more.

Considering the fact that we will probably have more than enough time to be depressed later in the season, no reason NOT to be excited now.

Kinda how I feel I see teams every year people think are going to suck outperform and show improvements that no one expects. So always hope and that's enough for me.

IMO, there is a difference between being skeptical and being pessimistic and I'm skeptical. You are no different than most (all?) posters here - long-term Dolphin fans who have lived through misery. I admit to being optimistic in Philbin's 1st year. After that . . . waiting for Ross to figure it out. And I refuse to get optimistic THIS time. Nonetheless, any reasonable person can see hints of improvement that should temper chronic pessimism. I can see where, if most things go right, Miami could have a winning record. But I know from experience those "things" haven't gone right for over a decade. Long way of saying, I can understand being skeptical, but I can't imagine you see no signs of hope.

I admit I fall victim to that mentality. After Miami lost to Indy last year on the last play of the game with the worst OL-blocking anyone would ever see, I wished the Dolphins would move to Shanghai so I'd never have to give a **** anymore. Here I am excited the HOF game is in 10 days and the NFL is close to starting again.

as I get older I still want the jets to win badly and still invest way too much time and emotion in these games but I find I enjoy more when I take my son to a game or watch at home with him whether they win or lose. I hope some day I will get to see a Super Bowl but if not I still have some many great memories w/ more great ones to come.

You're lucky because you live there so getting access to the games isn't too complicated. I wish I had that.
