Dolphin D- As Good, Maybe A Bit Better?

Love to draft a MLB and move Ellerbe outside then I believe we will be greatly improved with just that one move.

Other than Mosely, who will not be there, don't see draft help, and there is nothing in FA. Gonna have to improve from within, which I believe we will do.

I agree with that. I think Taylor and Davis will step up but would like to see another veteran CB brought in and think they will. Like you I can't believe Wheeler will be as bad this year as he was last and I expect to get more production out of Jordan. Nothing against Big Paul, but Mitchell makes the line much more athletic.

Hoping for a vet CB to fall through the cracks. You watch games closely. Did you see Ellerbe and Wheeler hesitating and thinking last year or, is it just me>

Defense is definitely worse at this point, hopefully by the end of summer that won't be the case, we are weaker on the DL, our Safety now has bad knees and we lost Carroll and Peterson at CB so depth is a major issue, we are no better at LB which is a problem, but its still early, we are not better today than we were at the end of last season...

There are a few in the draft, but not deep no...Of course I am a little partial to Christian Jones, but hey...LOL

Absolutely there was hesitation. I think there were a few factors...I think they are both playing out of position, and I thought the D line ran too many stunts which is not Soliai strong suit and left both Starks and Soliai out of position often giving linemen free shots at the LBs. Also Wheeler needs to stop trying to make a knockout blow and just make a fundamental tackle.

Fin were middle of the pack on rush d. The most important rushing d stat is yard per rush allowed not yards per game.
Miami was tied for 19th with Cincinnati with 4.1 per attempt. That is pretty much the league average.

We were 4th in opponents passer rating. There is a reason we gave up more rushing yards last year. The pass D was forcing teams to run.

Miami was 24th in rushing defense. And thats a direct reflection of the front 7. Fact.

Mainly the LBs not having good instincts. Hence why i would sign Spikes, most effective run stopping LB available

I thought you were giving us a D- grade.....your thread title is kind of misleading. :chuckle:

Both Ellerbe and Wheeler were adapting to new systems, and the stunts are a VG point, with Soliai taking an hour or so to run one. Both are NOT bad NFL LB's, as they have proven in 2012. I expect them both to be much better.

Sorry, should have added a reading and comprehension thread for anyone who did not understand. JK/LOL

As of right now we are not better, actually quite worse with a lot of time to improve. Losing Patterson, Carrol, Clemons, and big Paul, while adding Delmus, and Mitchell is not us getting better. We have plenty of time to change that but at least be honest. Mitchell is not and upgrade over big Paul. Mitchell was on a DL with the best DLman in the league who had to be doubled and tripled and chipped and STILL found a way to disrupt. OLs were not concerned with Mitchell who was rarely doubled even when the play was ran right at him.

When we weren't running stunts and twist, Paul was able to stop the run, which is something Mitchell won't be able to do. I like the Mitchell signing but it ISN'T an upgrade. Nor is losing Patterson. Patterson when healthy was a very solid player for us and Carroll was really coming into his own as well. We seem to have a knack for getting players ready to play their best ball then send them packing before they can help us.

There is no damn way this Defense is any better. Not a snowballs chance in hell it's better!

I could make a case it is. Its called development of young players. Jordan will definitely be better. Taylor and Davis will be better. Vernon will be better. Mitchell is a better scheme fit then Big Paul.

Southbeach 2 - I love your optimism re Philip Wheeler and hope that you're right, but I have seen very little to warrant his big guaranteed salary.
