Dolphin D- Keeping The Band Together?

I don't think our Run D was that great... Rather cut one loose, promote Odrick to the others spot, and use the money elsewhere...

we need a whole line new, we need a running back, we need a corner, LBs.. I think keeping Soliai and Starks is a waste.

You do know that Odrick played more snaps that either Starks or Soliai, and there is no way fro him to be "promoted?" Where do you guys come up with this stuff? I know you have to have internet access or would not be here but, apparently chose not to use it before posting nonsense. :)

Clemons doesn't need to be re-signed. It'd be nice to have a safety who could catch the ball. Soliai should be re-signed. Jordan needs to play more. Davis and Taylor need to prove they can play. Grimes need to be re-signed too.

I would make a strong push to resign both and as others have commented on and I've said a few times on here before, I'd make a permanent move to a 30/20 front as I do believe our personnel suits this approach better than a 40.

From a personnel to position standpoint, I do think this Defense [and overall team would be better as more backers means more athletes on specials] puts the athletes in a better position

DL - Starks, Odrick, Soliai with some of the young'uns being developed and some FA depth also

OLB - OV and Jordan, and I would strongly consider switching Wheeler to the outside if they don't cut him based on finances… Just don't see him as an inside backer at all

ILB - I would like to see Misi inside, better range, strong at POA and better in coverage than Wheeler - alongside Ellerbe and looking at the likes of Skov/Bullough in the draft

DBs - as they are and hopefully Patterson can get/stay healthier and the 2 young draftees figure something out

As you may see, Wake is not listed. He's coming close to the end and he's not a good fit in the 34, he's a down end in the 40, so trade him to a contender and possibly pick up a 2nd round pick.

With some FA depth - I do believe we could be a better defense in a 30/20 front, but this would mean a change at the DC position.

It's a 4-3 or 3-4 D back here in "The Colonies" Pat. :)

I remember when we signed Burnett, a signing I hated, and he lived down to my expectations in his first year. However, he then turned things around to playvery well in his second year here. .

Burnett's stats

2011...106 tackles...2.5 sacks...1 interception...1 td
2012...110 tackles...2.5 sacks...0 interceptions..1 forced fumble

seems like almost the exact production both years

If that;s all you base it on, yeah. Some go a whole lot further than a few blind stats.

OK so I was wrong re: playing time, but that supports my point as well. Why keep Starks and Soliai when Odrick has played more snaps? And whats up with these obnoxious comments: "where do you come up with this stuff? I know you have internet access"... dude, you made your point..Was that necessary? You've won the internet, congratulations.

What leads you to believe that Taylor and Davis will be much improved? If you really want to rely on Carroll, Wilson and those two bums.....your gonna have a serious problem on your hands. Carroll and Wilson were decent but will they improve or regress?

I like Patterson. I'd keep him but ask him to restructure contract that has kickers in it based on games played. Our D was better w him in there.

I would definitely try to retain both and make a run at Donte Whitner for safety. If I had to keep one over the other, it would be Starks.

Anyone who has the opinion that the Dolphins defense underperformed this season loses a lot of credibility, in my opinion. Our offense averaged less than 20 points a game and that defense STILL kept us in almost every game. I can only think of 2 games where they played BAD - @Steelers @Saints.

I would like to think the DC needs to be upgraded Cole is a better secondary coach than DC, our defense folded to often for me to be confortable with, if Sherman goes why shouldn't Cole or maybe demoted at the very least, just my opinion.

I don't think we need a whol new defense but to stand the way we are right now is crazy. Our LB's can't tackle to save their life. Patterson is an in jury waiting to happen(too bad too)and Carroll and Clemons were playing cause we had nobody else. As far as the D-line, don't be surprise if both Starks and Soliai are gone. BTW if we were to switch back to a 3-4 defense then Wheeler would have to be gone which he should be anyway and you'd need to play Jordan as an OLB which might be his best position. He can't play END on a 3-4. You'd then really need to keep Soliai to be the NT with Odrick at one END and then you need to find another END just to start. Wake would have to play OLB too. You'd need another 2 big LB's to play inside. You can't have small LB's playing inside on a 3-4 or they'll get killed.

Ozzy rules![/QUOTE

Where are you finding a replacement for Starks? I cannot find anyone half as good but, would love to hear who it is.

I didn't say I want him gone. Isaid I believe both will leave for more money.

Ozzy rules!!

Great post. I agree completely. I think you need Wake on your OLB list. I like the Skov idea. Not as sure about how well Bullough will translate.

Hey Rob, my apology. My sense of humor does not always translate well to posting. A friend had said the same thing after seeing my post, and I said the same thing to him. He said FU, and some have better things to do than watch snap counts. I said that IF he watched more than the ball during games, he would understand more about the game. On and on, other friends chiming in, cursing, laughing, and more beer. LOL

However, I see where you took offense. Even with the :) added, it did not come off as funny at all. Again my apologies.
