Our biggest obstacle this year is the AFCE...The Jets were in the p/o's last year, the Bills were very close and the Pats are the Pats...(meaning, I refuse to count them out until they are beaten...they just always seem to come thru when you least expect it..). That constitutes 6 of our 16 games.
We were close in most every game last year, but we really weren't very close in those games. We had no heart last year, as a team...That won't be true this year, but it still won't add up to 10 or 12 wins like some seem to think...
As a loooong time Fins fan, I can tell you that this time of EVERY year, including last year, is time for extreme optimism because our teams have usually always been well coached at least (save for the last couple or three years). This year is different...while we are all agreed that Saban will be more of a Shula type coach than a Wanny type coach, we do have to temper our optimism some...Saban hasn't coached his first pro game yet (as a HC)...
Saban has made some improvements, but will it be enough for this season ?? I doubt it seriously...Saban must have abandoned his "build for the future" ideas after looking a little closer at the talent we already had on the roster and just decided to plug up a few holes and keep moving...but is it going to be enough (for this season) ??
The bottom line for most of us would be that even if we are 4-12 again, and competitive, we'd be happy...we have been 10-6 and 11-5 in the last few years and not competitive, so that would be a tremendous sight for me...I'm not being pessimistic, just guardedly optimistic. I stand by what I said before Wanny left, and that was that I was tired of playing not to lose instead of to win...I do feel that with Saban, we'll play to win though...
(how's that for rambling on....)
