OK. I haven't read all the posts yet, but let's look at the past 3 years.
In 2004, 6 of our 12 losses were by 7 points or less. We weren't that far from a 10-6 year. Our biggest problem was our offense giving the other team points.

In 2003, we finished 10-6, with 4 of those losses by 7 points of less.

In 2002 we finished 9-7 with 3 losses of 7 points or less.

We are normally a 9-7 or 10-6 team. 2004 was the exception.
What has changed from 2002/2003 to 2005? (forget 2004)
1) New head coach
2) New line coaches
3) New QB
4) Addition of a Top running back to help out Ricky
5) Lots of other positives that I can't think of at the moment

The above post shows a lot of the changes we've made since last year.
Is our division really that much tougher than it was in 2003? With Miami bringing back a solid running game and a rejuvenated offense, I think you have to say that we're at least in the running for a 9-7 or 10-6 record.
2004 was an aberration.
