Dolphins | Gibson trying to prove himself in a deep WR field
Sun, 20 Aug 2006 06:58:45 -0700
Sara Rothschild, of the Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins WR Fred Gibson is trying to earn a spot on team's 53-man roster after spending last season on the practice squad. The Dolphins are deep at wide receiver, 13 deep, and Gibson knows that the team likely will keep about half that number on the active roster so he may be auditioning for a job elsewhere during this preseason. Gibson dazzled all week at training camp on the third team, exhibiting speed and seeming to catch almost everything thrown his way, but head coach Nick Saban noted the most important evaluation of the young players would come during games. Gibson followed up a stellar showing in the Dolphins first exhibition with another solid performance, catching two passes for 33 yards in Miami's 13-10 win Saturday, Aug. 19. The preseason has re-energized Gibson, who said it's closest feeling to his college days.

Sun, 20 Aug 2006 06:54:31 -0700

Part of Anderson's problem might have been that the Dolphins were working off the silent count for the first time this preseason.

Armando Salguero, of the Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins DL Keith Traylor is fighting for one of two roster spots. With his run-stopping abilities, Traylor will likely be kept on the team.

I dont think we have to worry about traylor making the team.

Ouch. I dont think things are looking too good for Ishola, Shaw, and Vickerson. Shaw has been cut a thousand times, and Vickerson apparently sustained a hand injury in the game last night.

I would keep Welker and Gibson.I would let Vick go.

I agree. Vick has done nothing to earn much less win the job and yet some here have already all but concluded Vick beats out Welker.

Welker hasn't done anything to impress me at all. At WR, I've only seen him break open maybe once or twice in the first game. At KR/PR, he's been average at best. Vick, on the other hand, has loads of talent and potential and in the first game, man, he was running routes better than ANY receiver on this team. I think he can be a more explosive return man as well, without question.

Nonetheless, Fred Gibson has impressed me FAR more than Welker & Hagan. He's my personal choice for the #3 WR spot right now. I'd like to see him get some reps in the first team 3-WR sets this Thursday.

Well Welker has already shown he can return kicks and he can make plays. What has Vick done?Im not saying cut Vick but if it comes down to him and Welker im keeping Welker. As far as Gibson goes i would put him on the 53 man roster for sure.I would keep 6 wr's Chambers,Booker,Hagan,Gibson,Welker, and Vick.

i dont see how Traylor is fighting for his job, nor do i see how Vickerson is fighting for a spot. Vickerson is young and showed he is pretty good so far

Hagan has been getting more time with the first team as the 3rd 4th WR, and from what it sounds like, he's going to be the 3rd or 4th WR. Guys like Gibson,Russell,Vick,Murphy, and Aromashadu are getting more time at WR because they're fighting for the final spots.
