### The Dolphins, who are obviously shaky at guard, inquired in recent days about guard Chris Chester, who started the past four seasons for the Redskins before being cut last week. But Miami wasn't as aggressive as Atlanta, which signed him on Saturday.

The Dolphins, for now, continue to hope that a combination of Billy Turner, Dallas Thomas and Jamil Douglas can fill two starting spots. If they prove incapable, the Dolphins could turn to Jason Fox, J.D. Walton, Jeff Linkenbach, Jacques McClendon or another veteran in August or early September.

### Something encouraging about new Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi: Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon (San Diego's first-round pick) and Ajayi were the only two college running backs who caused opposing defensive players to miss more than 60 tackles last season, ESPN's KC Joyner told us. No other back had more than 50.

### Interesting career move: Former Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman took a job as a high school coach at Nauset Regional in Massachusetts. Good for him.

At least they were looking. I wonder if the coaching staff has more confidence in Thomas than the FO.

This guard situation is going to bite us in the ass again this season

Absolutely, unless we make a significant move. It's always something with this team. We always have that one obvious glaring hole that the coaches just ignore thinking it will be no big deal.

Not saying we need pro bowlers but you can't possibly feel good about going into the year with someone who has been awful, and two people who combined have barley played in the NFL .

It has to be the biggest concern going into the season, especially looking at some of the D-Lines in our division in particular. We have two big question marks and your holding your breath and hoping that Albert comes back and plays at a high level.

And unfortunately for us, we have that glaring hole at guard and at linebacker.

Been trying to tell people that he's plenty physical, breaks plenty of tackles. Like Jeremy Hill, you're not going to confuse him with Earl Campbell or Marshawn Lynch, but he moves very well, and he consistently breaks arm tackles. He runs with a different style than Hill, and I liked Hill (1st RD) than I like Ajayi (2nd), but it's hard to find RB's who have the speed to take it 80 yards and the size and power to consistently break arm tackles. Hill's vision and instincts separate him from Ajayi, but Ajayi's vision isn't a negative; it's just not a major positive the way it is for Hill. His ability as a receiver out of the backfield is also a major plus. With his knees, he sounds like a rental, but he should contribute in a major way starting Week 1.

I'm not worried about turner he should be ok. Dallas Thomas scares me to death.

I feel the exact opposite. Dallas at OG wasn't bad last year. It was at OT where he was terrible. If put him at OG and leave him there for the entire year he will not be the weak link on the OL. We have no idea what we have in Turner. He could be a pro bowler or he could be another Jonathan Martin.

I am very nervous at the Guard situation, but on the other hand I feel this approach needs to happen. We need to at some point as an organization develop our own talent within, this is something we have been VERY bad at over the last decade. Teams like the Steelers, Packers, Pats and Ravens have been excellent at this and its why they have been consistently good. We have 3 young and raw players, at some point you need to develop that and stop looking for older stop gap players.

To me if the coaching staff doesn't realize Thomas is a back up at BEST they deserve to be fired.... Ask yourself why can everyone except the coaches figure this out. We will sign/trade for someone before training camp

I agree. At some point you've got to find out if young players can play. You can't always block their progress with one year rentals. I'm nervous as well, but the organization must be supporting what Philibin and the coaches feel they have in Turner, Thomas and to a lesser extent Douglas. Coaches see what these players can do in practice so have some idea about whether or not they can help the team.

I do have to say I don't like the finesse approach on the offensive line, though, especially with the defensive fronts in the AFC East.

Still a long time until Game 1.

I would not be surprised to see Miami pick up a Vet who gets cut during/after camp/preseason.That guy won't be a world beater but he will be better than Thomas.

And I am with the guys who feel confident that Turner will be solid. He would have played last year had he not gotten hurt.
