There has been a lot of talk about cutting this player or trading this other player here lately.
Most of it has no basis when you look at the salary cap numbers for 2014

While looking at the 2014 cap numbers I noticed that we have 14 players who have a negative cap savings if cut this year.
That pretty much means they are untouchable this year.

But if you look to 2015 that number drops to only 5 players. so that means 9 of those player will have to play well or become a cap casualty next year.
We could sign more free agents before next year and make that number rise. But right now it is only 5

The 9 players that change from negative cap saving to positive next year are Wallace, Ellerbe, Wake, Wheeler, Hartline, Finnegan, Tannehill, Mitchell and Starks

any opinions on who will still be a Dolphin next year and who will NOT due to cap reasons

My take

Wallace will be here (only $2M cap savings and he has potential to get much better)
Tannehill will be here (If things don't pan out this year he would be a cheap and capable backup)

Starks and Mitchell will probably be here due to decent price for 2 good d-Linemen ($10M)

Wake will probably be gone unless he puts up another monster season like 2012, Jordan will have to fill his shoes
Hartline will probably be gone. He essentially signed a 3 year deal and we drafted Landry to replace him.
Wheeler will likely be gone. He is cheap next year but you get what you pay for.

Ellerbe and Finnegan i have no clue on. I had high hopes for Ellerbe but he looked pretty lost last year. Hopefully another year helps. Finnegan is an unknown.

anyway that my 2015 predictions. anyone care to add their opinion.

I think Wake goes nowhere. He is a stud.
Hartline may have to compete, but I wouldn't count him out. I see Wheeler, Ellerbe, Finnegan gone, the others, depends on injury, this year's performance.

Players in a make-or-break year:
Phillip Wheeler
Danelle Ellerbe
Reshad Jones
Daniel Thomas
Lamar Miller
Ryan Tannehill
Louis Delmas (I think he's a one-year stopgap until someone better comes available)
This year will also be pretty significant for Jamar Taylor's career. Zero impact as a rookie and he's an important piece to the puzzle for our pass defense

Rashad Jones will cost us more to cut next year than to keep. he would have to play pretty bad this year for them to cut him loose. JMO

Just found this tidbit, his 2015 salary is fully guaranteed so he is not going anywhere till 2016

8/5/2013: Signed a five-year, $30.81 million contract. The deal contains $15 million guaranteed -- a $5 million signing bonus and each of Jones' first three base salaries. 2014: $2.61 million, 2015: $6.76 million, 2016: $7.225 million (+ $25,000 workout bonus), 2017: $7.06 million (+ $25,000 workout bonus), 2018: Free Agent

shouldn't the more pressing question be who will be coaching this team next year (2015)?

Joe should be added to this list.

True, not a player but his situation is about the same as the 9 players mentioned above.

If they had cap for coaches, his cap savings would be negative this year but slightly on the positive side next year.

Believe he signed a 4 year deal. Anyone have any details on his deal?

I think only a fool would think Tannenhill would be let go! He has done nothing but improve and is a positive as far as the offense goes! Plus he has been the best qb under center for Miami since Marino! I also think its laughable to think that Wake could be replaced by Jordan! As Jordan has a long way to go to fill those shoes!

Wake's cap number is 9.7m next year. He'll will need to get back to the double digit sacks if he expects to collect it in 2015.
I didn't say Jordan would replace his production. But he is a cheaper option if wake's play falls off further

I think Wake, Starks and hartline all stay. Wallace as well, unless he has a terrible year. Hartline stays because the offense is designed to use many different receivers in many different ways, so having 3 or 4 #2 receivers isn't a bad thing. I would bet Wheeler is gone unless he makes a big jump. I think Ellerbe will stay. As for hartline, his contract is 5 years and he's only 26 or 27. I hardly think Landry was drafted to replace him already. I think they will use both of them a lot. I see no reason why we can't have a few good route running, sure-handed receivers going at once.

Wheeler and Finnegan are the two most likely to go imo, I hope we move from a team that has to pick up free agents each year to start to one that 'keeps it's own'.
