Why they can beat the Patriots:
The Miami Dolphins pose the biggest threat to New England’s AFC East crown this season. The Dolphins have been loading up on defense the past couple of years, and have one of the best front seven’s in the division. That front consists of Pro-Bowlers such as Ndamukong Suh, Cameron Wake, and Kiko Alonso.
Further, quarterback Ryan Tannehill continues to be a solid performer for the team, posting a 67% completion percentage and a 93.5 quarterback rating in 2016. If he can stay healthy, the Dolphins have enough power up front on defense to get to Tom Brady, which is the only proven way to beat the Patriots. That defense, combined with solid offensive options in Kenny Stills, Jarvis Landry, and Jay Ajayi, combine to make a formidable divisional foe for the New England Patriots.
Why the can’t beat the Patriots: The main issue with the Miami Dolphins of the past couple of years has been consistency. They have shown many flashes of great potential, and proved that by making the playoffs last season. However, they have had to experience both inconsistent play from their star players and key injuries, which has put a temporary hold on their team’s improvement. The Patriots are the most consistent team in football, and the Dolphins would have to have a near perfect game to beat them. It also does not help knowing that their weakest defensive unit is their secondary, and the Patriots are more than happy to take full advantage of that with a roster that includes more than six receivers who can consistently be relied on to make plays.

I agree with the lack of consistency holding this team back, not so much about the Dolphins needing a perfect game to win against the Patriots. It's not like the Dolphins haven't had any success against them. In fact, they usually help out by giving us a dud performance in Miami.

When Philbin got fired and Dan took over, we knocked the hell out of Tennessee and then Houston.

Played hard. Played tough. Things are looking up.

And then we went to Foxboro........

We were the same team. Same guys. But we sure didn't play like we had the previous couple weeks. Total intimidation. Miami was nervous. It showed (badly), and we were crushed.

THAT is what holds us back with New England. That lack of confidence. And too much respect for the other team. But it's different with Gase. We hadn't gotten it into gear when we played them last fall, and we were hurt to a fare thee well when we played them last game of the season.

Yeah, yeah. All teams have injuries. But not as many to their star players. We all knew who was out. And with that many key guys out, you simply aren't going to beat the best teams in the NFL.

I expect much from these guys this year.

Someone has to crush the Pats and what better team than the fins. Since when is our secondary weak though? From the looks of things the secondary got better.

Those short quick three yard passes and crossing routes that turn into ten and fifteen yard gains continue to kill us and every other team for that matter. Amendola and Edelman thrive on those quick routes and rarely go down field for big catches over 20 yards or more. This ability by Brady to get rid of the ball that quickly makes our Dline impotent. We got to find a way to disrupt those crossing routes and specifically those annoying two and three yards completions thereby forcing Brady to hold the ball a fraction longer. That would at least give Suh and Wake a chance to get to him. I really hate this team.

The Fins players can't stop the routine plays that the patriots throw at them, Gronk beats when they knows he's to get the ball, edelman crossing the face of our LB'ers to make big gains even on 3rd down to extend drives, those are simple plays, whereas the Fins don't do the little things to win games, putting guys in posistion hoping to get production(Bobby McCain) is not the answer, they still play players that consistently gets them beat when the game is in the balance, many times I have watch this team have a lead in the fourth quarter with a 10 point lead with 3 minutes left and they lose the game, that is a coaching problem, need 1yard to extend the drive but they go for 20 yards and have to punt. This team didn't have the mental make up to beat New England and they still don't until they go into Foxboro and beat the hell out of them not by points but by being more physicallly.
It's like they gets shell shocked and forget how to play the game.

NE is best at the short-intermediate underneath passing game. Miami's LB's sucked. Everyone knew it going into the late season game.
