Line opened at MIA- 1, but quickly got bet all the way up to 2.5. Even with Ronnie out we are the favorites. I'm a tad bit surprised, anyone else? Then again, we are on 10 days rest, and the Jaguars aren't great on the road.

Isn't 3 points standard for home teams? That suggests to me that the action sees the Jags as the better team at a neutral site.

On the ESPN bottom line it said Jacksonville @ Miami (-3). Does that mean that we are a 3 point favorite or underdog?

I wonder if the fact that they are both FL teams changes the standard -3...something I've never really thought about, but you would think the proximity may help Jax's road woes.

That gets into the question of what makes it harder to win on the road. Is it the hostile crowd? The weather? The travel? I'd guess it's a little of all 3, which would make you think that the standard should be something like only 1 point if the Jets play the Giants "on the road" or something like 2 if the Bucs play Miami at home.

IMO the hardest part of playing on the road, is just being away from home. Although now days I think most teams stay in a hotel before home games anyway right? I think traveling to a new city, staying in unfamiliar surroundings and not being around your family is the toughest part. Some teams have bigger advantages because of hostile crowds and weather so it's really tough to say what the biggest factor is. But, for now, I'll go with being away from your home.

nobody wants to play us right now!!

hey guys vegas expert here i happen to live in the city and work at the mgm grand casino the numbers can change like that and its not always if someone is hurt or not fors instance you yourself can make the line change it doesnt have to be someone hurt or on rest for 10 days.say i were to bet $10,000 on miami this week that number alone can change the number from miami -3 to to miami -4,5 or maybe even 6. the public can influence the point spread more than you can imagine depending on how much money is put on either side. now say i put $10,00o on jax then that can very well move the line from miami -3 to even or jax -1 or 2, it all revolves around money. the more people bet on miami the -3 line will go up if more and more people bet on jax then the line goes down in favor of jax.one more thing you have to realize is that every casino doesnt have the same point spreads last night at the palms the colts were -9.5 but at mgm they were -8.5 and believe me that 1 point or half point can make a big difference each casino is usually .5-2.0 pts within eachother but sometimes that can matter so if ya ever here in vegas and going to wager on football keep that in mind not all casinos have the same lines and good luck

I bet on sports daily. $10,000 changing an NFL pt spread FIVE points???????? NO WAY!

you could just middle everything then, and the books wouldnt exist.

One person betting $10K shouldnt move the line at all. Maybe adjust the juice from -115 -105, if that.

Its not like Jax is just a quick drive down the block. It's about a six hour drive from miami. Not too many Jax fans down here either. And they are pretty hated after that defeat in the playoffs right around the end of marino.

I believe that he was just throwing out an arbitrary number. His information is right on. I have worked in a sports book, however it depends on how much money is bet. The books don't mind everything being middled. Then they take the juice. Either way the books win. And the line is moved to prevent them from taking a big loss.
