Dolphins' 2007 rookies already trump '06 crop

A good article, the writer is spot on about last year's draft picks, not much accomplished really, EXCEPT Rod Wright may really come on this year along with Allen and Hagen.

Compare that to Ginn, Satele, Beck, Booker, Fields, Solai.....

Little Early for that kind of talk i think.

If you followed last year's draft class to this you'd know the difference, plus if you read the article you would understand, if Stalele starts, this class is already doing better than last year's class.

I love how Armando figures out a way to turn a positive article into really a negative one, blasting Cameron for saying the rookies are now ready to play with the veterans...and then mainly making his argument about the 2007 class being better by default because the 2006 class is so putrid.

You can't judge a draft class by rookie contribution and Salguero makes his bias clear on his notes about Derek Hagan and Rodrique Wright. So many players contribute nothing in their rookie years and end up great players...Steve Smith comes to mind. Right now, Derek Hagan and Rod Wright are drawing some rave reviews from various coaches and players...yet what does Salguero say about them? That Hagan supposedly disappeared down the stretch (which is preposterous, it is much more accurate to say he merely had 2 good games in 2006) and that Wright spent the whole year hurt. No mention of how the two have looked so far or how many people they've impressed so far.

Jason Allen isn't there yet, and if we're being honest he may never be...but he's still set to be our nickel CB right now while Goodman is injured. Toledo has been hurt the whole time and he may end up out of it due to injuries...Aromashodu off the squad...Fred Evans off the squad...

There were only 6 draft picks in 2006. You couldn't do as much with them because there wasn't as much ammo as 2005.

In 2005 you had the #2 overall, of course you're getting a big player with that. Also had a 2nd rounder, which we turned into Matt Roth, now a starter (but didn't do anything his rookie year thank you very much). We made good on the 3rd rounder with Crowder, made good on the 4th rounder with Travis Daniels...Kevin Vickerson and Anthony Alabi have never surfaced.

Overall you've got 4 guys that made good from 2005, but in 2006 we had a #16 as opposed to a #2, and we had no 2nd rounder. The fact that Miami got Derek Hagan and Rod Wright anyway, and if Jason Allen turns out ok, then I don't think the success rate materially changed from 2005 to 2006.

The 2007 draft should be best of all because we had the most ammo. Five picks in the first four rounds, with five more late round picks to roll the dice. Plus we used one of them on a punter, which is an easy starter to artificially boost your "draft success".

CK, what do you think the deal with Jason Allen is? He has the numbers, he produced in college, is it lack of experience at Safety, lack of athletic playmaking talent, or is he just a guy who simply cannot learn the system of prepare to play at an NFL level?

Cb has to be one of the positions that require athletic ability and not much else, yet...no raves about Jason Allen in mini camp?

I think it has alot to do with moving him from safety to corner.

Our 1st round pick will make an immediate impact this year as opposed to last year. Wether its on returns or recieving his presence will be felt.

Corner is purely physical, jam, run, play the ball in the air, jump...etc.

There isn't an awful lot of cerebral work involved (caveat some veteran CB are incredibly studious and experience helps make up for diminished skills) Yet Jason Allen just wasn't making plays in Mini Camp he was in position, he wasn't left in the dust, he just didn't make plays.

BTW, that article had a nice shot of Jason Allen, he looks like a frail guy, I can't believe he weighs 200 pds.

He's listed at 213. Frail? Have you seen him without the pads? He is ripped
