For all of you fns who wants this FA and that FA signed, the reality is Miami is just 10mil under the salary cap for th 2012 season so us to even sign Matt Flynn would require a great manipulation of the salary cap. We know so fure even Flynn would command at least 9-10 mill a year. Players like Dansby and jake long may have to restructure and players like Yeremiah Bell and Kevin burnet may have to be cut to make room under the cap.
I say good Luck Fins!!

This team was 0-7 and only won 6 games. LOTS of dead weight to be cut and let go. Plus Long entering the final year of his deal could easily be re-worked and extended.

And if they go to a 4-3 defense Soliai is gone and that is a huge cap saving right there.

Miami is in good cap shape

I wouldn't be surprised to see Jake Long's contract restructured this (final) year. The cap hit is pretty big and the team and Long can plan on longer term security.
The players you mentioned will probably restructure as well. After all is said and done, they will clear enough cap space for Flynn.

Solai is a FA so not resigning him saves nothing towards that number. Resigning him just takes away from it

The Dolphins last year played at $9 mill UNDER the cap. Losing Soliai adds to it. That website linked in the OP is trash and not even accurate

Bell and Fasano could be cut for major savings or extending them can lower cap numbers

Extending Long could lower his number

Many are in the last year's of their deals. Extending them can provide cap relief.

For a big ticket FA, backloading some number can help get the job done in the short-term. That is why I am NOT an advocate for giving the farm up for RGIII. The draft is needed to replenish the roster in the coming years as many, many players' contracts are coming to an end.

Finally, I am not worried we got Dawn Aponte...lol.

Soliai counts nothing toward the 2012 cap because he is a FA. Once you sign him or elect to tag him then he would.

Maybe he does not come back. Many solid NT in FA this year. Maybe you let him play the market.

Where do we stand with Wake? I never heard if they re- signed him.I really don't want to lose him.....

entering final year of his deal. I think they let him play it out. He was good last year but not great. No need to overpay now

I think we will be suprised at some of the players who will be released. I think this team is going to be reshaped into a team that Philbin see's as being successful over the longhaul and this may include some cuts/trades that some of us may or may not agree with. Philbin has a specific plan. This will offer some cap relief and hopefully strengthen the team for the future.

I do not think so. This is Ireland's team. How is that not clear? Jeff will get some "toys" for Philbin, but Ireland believes in this group.

This may be true, but if Ireland does'nt trust and respect Philbins thoughts on what he does or does'nt need, as far as personnel goes, this group will be hard pressed to compete. I don't think either Philbin or Ireland can be successful if they don't work together in this phase of the building process.
