Harris says he's optimistic he'll fulfill his potential this season, and a week into training camp, so are the Dolphins.

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Last year it often seemed Miami Dolphins rookie defensive end Charles Harris didn’t have a prayer to reach the quarterback, and now he does.
The first-round draft pick from Missouri turned to his faith to shake the funk he found himself in last season when he totaled two sacks, which tied for 156th in the NFL.
“As a rookie, I was in a dark place,” he says. “Now I’m cool. I understand grace.”

He had a good amount of pressure towards the end of the season. From all accounts, he is a tremendous worker so if he does fail, it won't be from lack of effort (Dion Jordan style). I think Wake mentioned he was the most improved payer on the team coming into this offseason. He's going to be part of a gauntlet of pass rushers...keeping legs fresh all game.

Guy is a week into his second year training camp. I love all of the people that thought he sucked last year as a rookie. 5, 9, 2.5....those are JT's sack numbers in order the first three years and he was a first ballot hall of famer...

I would have taken 5 sacks from the rookie. It wasn’t just the lack of sacks - it was him getting rubbed out by the LT too easily on most rushes. JT you could tell was a great athlete from day 1. Harris looks nothing like JT in terms of athletic ability / body type - he looks more like Jared Odrick or Matt Roth to me.

He did indeed, but Cam's comments were even more impressive than that. He said Harris had the best offseason of the entire team:

"I actually think Charles Harris has probably had the best offseason, not just any D-lineman, but probably anybody on our team,” Wake said. “He came back in tremendous shape. He’s obviously been working on his strength. He’s been working on his football, and it’s showing up on tape. I think that’s definitely going to pay off when it becomes time to put these live bullets in and get after these quarterbacks. He’s made great strides and obviously the more the merrier, I’m happy for it."

I have a feeling that Charles Harris is going to be a special player for us.

I agree... I think he is going to make a big jump in year two

I watched him. He just didn't have the strength/power. He looked lightweight. It's ok to have a decent spin move etc but he was found out by NFL calibre Tackles that basically moved him around. I will give him a free pass as it was his rookie year. I didn't see much from him last season and i've almost forgotten about him going into this season. Let's see. I hope he's on the up.

If Minkah, Harris and Raekwon could all have a steep trajectory (and join Xavien who seems to be well on his way to elite), this could be an exciting time to be a Dolphins fan.

Exactly. I'm excited about it man. I think this defense is going to take a big step forward this year. I really do. Secondary has a chance at being one of the best in football. We need Raekwon to be a thumper in the run game, idk what to make of him yet. Harris flashed to me last season.

The numbers weren't there but second half of the season he was getting close alot. Ready to see what these young guys can contribute this season.

By a guys 3rd year you usually know what you got. I'm not worried about him just yet. Get in the weight room, learn from Wake and Quinn and JT if he can and put it all together by year 3.

He ain't waiting. He's going to terrorize this season! :D

I am optimistic that Charles can have a great season and be a key to our Defense for many years to come. I think he can be very good. But to be honest I am wary about any players who believe their success in the game is dependent on how hard and often they pray. Every time Harris is interviewed, his eyes glaze over and all he wants to talk about is his faith. OK, we get it, he's a good guy and extremely religious. BTW - the last Dolphin who talked constantly like this was Jamar Taylor and saying his prayers did little to help him from getting traded to the Browns.
