Charlie Bernstein who is a regular contributor to foxsports.com says the reason the Dolphins are holding Culpepper hostage is because of spite alone!

I'm guessing Charlie Bernstein flings poo as well.

How come when you add a user to your ignore list their threads still show up?

I think he may be overstating the reasoning. I think we made some bad decisions in the culpepper situation but I don't think spite is involved. I do think it would be better to release Pep and just move on.

This is a purely business move. Had Culpepper not said anything, stayed on the field and watched practice, the front office would be doing exactly the same thing. Saying that it's out of spite is completely ridiculous.

It is spite all the way! Mueller is mad that DC wont play the trading game with him. DC has a right not to renegotiate regardless of what the Dolphins paid him last year.

Limitation of the feature.

Please post questions in the Questions and Suggestions forum. Thanks.

Not sure anybody is mad, but we did not do the things to help get a a player to help us out. The media was more honest than our organization but its business so lets just move on. It doesn';t matter that I think trading for Green was a mistake we have done it so lets just cut pepp because we have sabotaged any chance to trade him and truly Jacksonville can wait us out.
Plus if we hold onto pep won't he have a case if he doesn't practice at all or play in the preseason with the team. Is a team allowed to just hold onto a player all through preseason without playing him or having a team practice at all. This would seem a violation. HAs any team ever done this?

I believe their thinking is that why should they just "give Culpepper to some other team. The Dolphins had to give up a second rounder to get him, why not recoup some value? Even if it is just a 7th rounder? Too often, we've just let players go to see other teams jump on them (See Byars, Cox, etc.). We need to change our thinking, and I believe that this decision signals a move in that direction.

By that rationale, wouldn't Culpepper be guilty of spite as well?

I mean, he flat out announced his intention to submarine the Dolphins' efforts in the press.

"My mind's not going to change about this," said Culpepper. "Any team that's interested in my services, just sit tight."

Both sides are playing hardball. Both sides are trying to hold the other hostage. Neither side has anything to gain from being spiteful.

Absolutely.

If anyone is doing anything in spite it's Culpepper.
The Dolphins are simply trying to get a return on their investment which they have every single right to do.

Culpepper could already have moved on to Jax and could be readying for a shot a starting for them yet he decides he'd rather kick and scream like a kid that just dropped his ice cream cone.

We already sabotaged that by not letting him practice with the team. Teams are not going to trade for a guy that is coming off from injury especially when they see the team that has him does not want to even risk an injury. Teams know that we will eventually cut Culpepper. We played our hand when we could have bluffed alittle and at least acted like we had a competition. Who is going to trade for Culpepper. Jacksonville has two capable starting level Qb's so they can more than afford to wait it out.

i thought they were holding him cause they paid him 8 million dollars and he only played in 4 games....

So in this same article did she mention Carl Peterson being spiteful to Green. If nots he is nothihng more than a hypocrite, plain and simple...Culpepper doesnt have a chance

IMO it all comes down to whether or not Jax is willing to pay Pep's existing salary. If they are, it doesn't matter if Pep wants to go or not, he's going. With that in mind, I believe the Dolphins will get something from Jax.

That said, there's still a chance that Pep refuses to report, which could certainly scuttle a deal if Jax isn't keen on simply holding his rights. IMO, he'd be foolish not to consider Jax. They've got a great running game, a solid OL and a fantastic defense. Plus it's in FLA.

The Dolphins are saying he can participate in everything except team drills.

It's interesting because sometimes when you go to camp, the bottom QB won't get ANY 11-on-11 reps. That said, they do get more than just the individual stuff. And with the doctor giving him a clean bill of health, it does seem like the Dolphins could very well lose the grievence.

However, the Dolphins aren't refusing to pay him. He'll be getting his full salary.

I guess the question is, is the team required to give a healthy player reps in all phases of practice?
