It seems certain that we will have Albert and James, may add KO who can cover Albert or, add a vet. ESPN's latest mock has us taking LT Ronnie Stanley from ND at #8, which is interesting.

IF we keep OV, Wake and Shelby and IF we address the DB's in FA, it becomes more interesting. Most believe that Albert should be replace by next year and this kid is VG.

Opinions?

He has experience at right tackle (13 starts in 2013) and left tackle (27 starts the past two seasons) with athleticism to suit any offensive scheme.

Strengths Weaknesses

STRENGTHS: Stanley passes the eye test with a girthy frame, long arms and the set-up quickness to protect the edge and mirror speed rushers in space. His long arms and fluid slide allow him to protect the edge, even when matched up against speed pass rushers. Plays on the balls of his feet with his knee bent, displaying good lateral agility and balance to mirror rushers. He has heavy hands and long arms, allowing him to catch and control opponents.

Also shows strength and determination in the running game. Drives defenders off the ball in short-yardage situations, and speed and terrific effort getting to and effectively blocking at the second level.

Besides size, athleticism and toughness, Stanley shows other traits that will earn him kudos with scouts, including good awareness and competitiveness. Keeps his head on a swivel and looks for peel back blocks on defenders in pursuit. Will block one defender before switching off to hit another.

Further, he's more technically sound than one might expect for a young player. Stanley shoots his hands to stun defenders but isn't over-aggressive, demonstrating the patience that most blockers don't develop for years. He understands blocking with angles, using arm bars and running with defenders downfield to keep his opponent from making the tackle.

WEAKNESSES: Young player still developing his immense skillset. He will play too high at times and needs to better sink and improve his blocking angles. When defenders are able to attack his chest, it doesn't take much for them to drive Stanley backward on his heels as he struggles to reset his anchor.

COMPARES TO: D'Brickashaw Ferguson, New York Jets - Dancing bears who use their natural athleticism and length to shut down speed, Stanley needs some time to refine his technique and improve his functional strength to handle NFL rushers, similar to Ferguson when he entered the league.

IN OUR VIEW: His lacks technical refinement and will struggle initially in the NFL as he learns the finer points to the game, but he has the size, length and athletic ability that few his size possess, which is why he'll be drafted high.

They not only need Guards, but eventual (IMO immediate) replacements for Albert and Pouncey who are not worth the money they're getting. It's a perfect time to rebuild, so why not rebuild Philbin's o-line that has been horrible?

Kiper is not good at his job.

We do need to move on from Albert asap, but the D needs fixed first

I'd be less than thrilled.

Not because I think he's a bad player, but because I don't think OL is the greatest idea for our 1st rounder this year.

might be able to get indianas Jason spriggs at pick 40 if you don't like this so high...I saw some inconsistencies from snap to snap with his 1 on 1 work at the senior bowl but he's got the tools to man the 3rd tackle and is a left tackle fit athlete

Hey, maybe this time it will work, but I think it's a Long shot.

I completely agree on the D with Hargraves my top choice. I am though now starting to think about IF we took care of DE and CB in FA, LT should be considered. This move would likely allow us more to offer KO and gives the kid a year or, until Albert gets injured, to develop. I cannot get the OL of two years ago out of my head. We had Albert playing great with little else aside from Pouncey and did well until he went down.

Food for thought.

battered wife syndrome with this team and fanbase.

no. i really don't want to draft a LT in the first round this year.

if Miami doesn't fill that 3rd tackle role you sure can't rule anything out come draft weekend

When was the last time the Dolphins drafted a LT?? Jake Long?

If we thought JuWuan James was a future LT, we were the only ones. The rest of the league had him a 2-3 round talent; and they were wrong as well. He was a 4th round talent. Dolphins need to draft competition for him as well in the later rounds. We need TWO OT's!

If Stanley is the best player available, you draft him. That is what winning teams do. If he isn't, draft Joe Haeg in the 3rd, now that.......is value.

jawuan james on pass pro alone was worth more than a 4th rounder...he was worth a top 50 pick...I do agree though top 20 was a reach given he's not a well rounded tackle in terms of as a run blocker

he's got really good technique and short area lateral quickness in pass pro...good hand placement good feet

In 2014 James was rated the worst offensive lineman on our team with a pass protection rating of -17.5
which was worse than Cooledge and Thomas. James allowed 6 sacks,12 QB hits and an astronomical
40 QB hurries.I realize that hose numbers include his dismal play at left tackle but during the first
8 games at right tackle he led the team in QB hits and QB hurries by a wide margin.

I'd appreciate if someone could post what his 2015 stats were
but I have to say I don't see a 1st round run blocker or pass protector

I have seen Stanley called a "dancing bear" because of his athletic skills for someone so big but, that he needs a year to develop. I never thought I would consider a OT at #8 but, the idea is kinda growing on me. I do want to replace Albert, not sure on what James can do, and if phasing out Albert lets us sign KO, it may not be a bad move. Thinking Tannehill would agree.

I agree winning teams draft BPA but ... Miami isn't one. Winning teams are drafting at the back half of the round which means they don't have as many holes to fill as a losing team does

How good is Stanley on the run?

The biggest concern right now for Albert is his health no? IMO he's still far better than Stanley would be in his rookie or second season. There's too many needs on this team that are higher than OT. We do need quality depth at left tackle but not at the expense of our 1st round pick. With this pick we half to get someone who comes in immediately as a starter and hopefully a star.
