Dolphins' Allen happily moving forward

I love Allen's attitude. He knows he under-performed last year and seems to be doing anything and everything it takes to get on the right track to becoming the playmaker that the dolphins drafted. I hope to see this kid in the lineup for years to come!

He'll be good. He showed flashes of what he can do last year with his limited playing time. Oh, wait. He's a bust already though isn't he?

He better play this year or its just another salary cap mistake by Saban. Can't make that much money and sit on the bench.

I know you are being sarcastic and denigrating those who have been critical of Allen, but the bottom line is every year every player (including rookies) gets evaluated. And the evaluation on JA cannot be that he played to the level of a first round pick. There were other DBs picked after JA that played much better than he.

This season is crucial. After this season, 50% of his contract with the Fins will be fulfilled. We need him to step up and at the very least be a productive 5th DB. And if he is, thats fine. We don't need him to be starter. If he can be productive and not be the weak link in the nickel defense, he'll be a success in my book.

Jason Allen will be a player this year. He is too talented not to. He has great size, speed, and hits. With Saban gone we will see a totally different player.

I like the fact that you don't expect him to be D'Angelo Hall this year (which a lot of people do).....but you're absolutely right, he needs to be productive in some sort of role in this defense this year.

A first round pick who can't even crack the starting line up? How productive can he be when he will be sitting on the bench come 9/9/07?

I just don't understand how you could be happy with him being our 5th DB. Meaning that he wont even be on the field in dime sets. That will be sad of him if he can't even play in the dime packages. That to me tells me he is trully a bust. If J.Allen does not make the starting line up he was a waste of a first round pick.

None of our D-backs were drafted in the first round and they are all starting over him? That is just a bad sign letting everyone know that he is just another Miami Dolphins BUST.

Yeap, just like Chris Chambers and his potential. 7 years later and were still wating to see Chris Chambers potential. He has had one cinderella season that will never happen again and we still consider him a number one WR? J.Allen is going down that same route, never reaching their full potential.

My take on Chris Chambers is that his Man Hood is hanging in Steve Atwaters closet. After that hit Chris Chambers has never been the same.

I'm going to stand on the other side of the fence than a lot of you are standing on. I think last year might have been the best thing that could have happened. You have a player that was drafted in the first round that comes in with all this confidense and physical skill and talent and didn't even start last year. His bad year last year gained him one thing that he may have been missing before. Desire, he learned last year that talent alone wont get you on the field. You have to want to be out there, you have to work on and off the field to become a better player. Some of those guys last year that played and didn't do too bad will probably be satisfied with what they did, where as Jason will work twice as hard to become better and add that to the physical skill and talent that he already has. It could be the best thing that happened to him.

:rolleyes2

He has played one season as a safety in probably the most complicated system for a safety in the league and you know what path he is going down?

Spare me.

.

Sorry but he has every reason to be sarcastic on this.

Evaluating the play of a rookie is one thing.
That is what coaches and fans using their head will do to see what the player may need to improve upon to flourish in the NFL the next year.

Giving that rookie evaluation the same weight as an evaluation on a veteran of the NFL to project a definitive conclusion on his future in the NFL is pure horse manuer. IMO, in a rookies season, you are looking for signs. Signs that the talent and the ability to adjust is there.

There IS an adjustment to the pro game.
There IS time needed for rookies coming in to learn the game and the speed of the NFL game. The amount of J.Allen is a bust threads were silly at best, at best.

I really have no idea why the concept of a rookie's learning curve needs to continually be brought up on a sports forum filled with educated sports fans
but for some reason it does.
