The Miami Dolphins and GM Dennis Hickey have parted ways:

After several days of discussions between the Miami Dolphins and Dennis Hickey, both sides have decided to part ways.

Dennis Hickey is no longer the team's general manager. And although those discussions also included the possibility of a reassignment, he is no longer with the team.

A new GM has not been hired but sources point to Chris Grier as a strong candidate to replace Hickey. That is not done.

“I want to thank Dennis for his work over the last two years. We talked about a number of different possibilities, but at the end we reached this agreement,” Executive Vice President of Football Operations Mike Tannenbaum said. “I have a great deal of respect for what he accomplished here and wish Dennis and his family well.”

Hickey, with the team two years, was classy in his departure:

“I have been blessed to be the General Manager of the Miami Dolphins for the last two seasons and I want to thank Stephen Ross for giving me this opportunity,” Hickey said. “During my time here with the Dolphins, I approached each day with passion, drive and integrity in trying to bring a championship to this proud franchise. Over the past week, I have had a number of conversations with the Dolphins organization about my role in the team. Ultimately the Dolphins and I agreed that it would be best if we parted ways. I will always be proud of our accomplishments in Miami including many key additions to the team through the draft and free agency. I am also thankful for all the relationships that were built here with scouting department, the staff, coaches, fans, alumni, and South Florida community. My family and I will always appreciate all of the support we have received over the past two seasons. We wish everyone the best going forward.”

Damn quicker than I thought. I wish Hickey well. He definately got the shaft. Fall guy for tbaums **** up this last year. As if it wasn't tbaums decision to sign suh... lol. Good luck hickey

Interesting Hickey doesn't mention Tannenbaum at all in his comments....

Let the fun begin. Holy ****. Good thing Darlington got his article submitted.

How long before at least one ex dolphin staffer comes out with all the dirt and orginazational hot mess that we've all been dying for? I mean, actual details and no speculation. I hope Hickey does

He should never have got the job in the first place, all those rejections marked a dark day for the franchise. He was in way over his head from day 1.

However (and I mean this) he seemed a lovely man and I hope he gets a good scouting job somewhere

Sounds like they want to keep Hickey in the scouting/personnel area but he wants no part of Tannenbaum.

Interesting Hickey doesn't mention Tannenbaum at all in his comments....

Why should he. He ended with Class unlike much of the idiocy that has went on with the Phins.
Maybe at some point he will give clarification to what his role was and we might be suprised one way or another.

Time will tell. We will be able to compare his two years with the before and after and see how his moves compared.

Was basically the college scouting director once Mike Tannenbaum came aboard. Title or not, it's Mike's show.

Classic, classic, classic Ross.

Once again, every single thing that Steve Ross does as owner of the Dolphins goes back to his time in the business school in the University of Michigan. He tried to compartmentalize the problem instead of just firing the guy when things weren't working out and there was an organizational conflict.

Hickey's free agency stunk two years in a row, but he was an improvement over Jeff Ireland and drafted some solid players while he was here. Not amazing, but the fact is that he was a big improvement over what we had, and I appreciate him for that, at least.
