...Dolphins activating Gray because they want big back available with Ajayi out. . will look at signing QB Logan Thomas to practice squad.

... decision to cut McClendon and promote Brenner was simply change of heart from how they felt Saturday after watching practice this week.

Brenner also promoted

Good moves

NICE! And not just because he's on my fantasy roster, I'd hate to have him poached from the PS the week before we play the Pats for info.

LOLWUT was this a psyche test for Brenner?! Guy had a great camp then they send him to the PS and then promote him 2 days before opening day thats crazy, I can see Hickey going HAHA just ****ing with you guy! Thomas must've had a bad week in practice for them to ditch him so fast but he was a terrible signing anyway

Well if they sign Logan to the PS...we still have one more spot to fill.

PS if Gray gets activated because he is the "Big" back Williams will won't be

I don't think McClendon has any PS eligibility.

Don't this so either, got to assume Fox is inactive Sunday and they want Brenner their for depth for the O line I guess, not sure why the decision now to cut McClendon.

You think that puts Williams on notice? How is Gray as a receiver?

Decent but the scuttlebutt he is to be used in Jumbo and short yardage situations which was supposed to be Ajayi, but I don't think its because of anything Williams has done wrong but this is a decision based on need of a power back. Should Miller get hurt I think Williams would take over his duties first

In order to be eligible for the practice squad, players must meet one of the following requirements:

Have no prior Accrued Seasons in the NFL (An accrued season is six or more games on the active roster);
Have one prior Accrued Season in which the player was on the 45-man active roster for no more than 8 games;
Each club will be permitted to sign a maximum of 2 Practice Squad players who have earned no more than 2 accrued seasons of free agency credit;
If served two seasons on a practice squad, are eligible for a third season only if the team has at least 53 players on its active/inactive list for the duration of that player's employment.
A player has served one season on the practice squad if he is on the practice squad for at least 6 games. The rule previously required 3 games on the practice squad roster.

Like that Grey kid - I am so glad we got him back, he is a completely different back than Williams - dude one cuts and hits the hole hard every team needs that when they have the lead and it's 3rd and 1

The Dolphins have been busy little bees this afternoon, working the back end of their roster.

The team has promoted running back Jonas Gray and offensive lineman Sam Brenner from their practice squad to their active roster. To make room for both players on the roster, the team waived both guard Jacques McClendon and quarterback Logan Thomas.

Thomas, signed off waivers earlier this week, didn't last long enough to find a place to rent. He was living in a hotel. He was also something of a luxury as the Dolphins already had a quarterback on the practice squad and two others -- Matt Moore and Ryan Tannehill -- on the active roster.

The Dolphins may still add Thomas back onto the practice squad if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

The move to promote Gray is interesting in that he was obviously a late addition to the practice squad and obviously showed enough in practice this week to convince the team he is worthy of a spot. It is possible the Dolphins were guarding against another team poaching Gray from their practice squad.

Gray is now able to play in Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins but that would mean either Lamar Miller or Damien Williams would lose snaps in the game. That remains to be seen as neither Miller nor Williams has been known to have done anything that would suggest such action.

Brenner was the backup center for much of training camp but was cut on the final cut to 53 players. McClendon, who also played guard during training camp and the preseason, had taken over backup center duties when that happened.

Obviously, Brenner returns to that spot on the roster now after what seems like a better week of practice than McClendon.

By the way, none of these moves are permanent. The Dolphins could easily re-sign McClendon next week and put Brenner back on waivers and eventually the practice squad. And, of course, Gray's status is game-to-game as well.

We are talking about the back end of the roster.

On the injury front, the Dolphins are relatively healthy as they depart for Washington Saturday. Left tackle Jason Fox, who is still fighting the fallout from a concussion, is listed as doubtful.

Branden Albert (knee), Jamar Taylor (thigh), LaMike James (shoulder) and DeVante Parker (foot) all were full practice Friday and are listed as probable.
