Six former Purdue players work out for NFL scouts

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Six former members of the Purdue football team took part in exercises for a gathering of NFL scouts during Pro Timing Day on Thursday at the Mollenkopf Athletic Center.

Montrell Lowe, Pete Lougheed, Joe Odom, Ralph Turner and Rob Turner each went through a series of drills and tests, including the 40-yard dash, shuttle and cone runs, plus weightlifting and workouts for their respective positions. In addition, John Shelbourne was timed in his long snapping. Gene Mruczkowski, recovering from knee surgery in January, also was in attendance but still has not been cleared to work out.

Scouts were on hand from 13 teams: Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, St. Louis Rams and Tennessee Titans.

Both the Jets and Rams sent assistant coaches to see Odom, who was impressive at the NFL Combine last month, running the fastest 40-yard time among linebackers at 4.59. He was timed at 4.54 and 4.55 on Tuesday.

The two-day NFL Draft is Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27, in New York.

Boomer footnote: I'm not a fan of any of the Senior Boilermaker prospects - Odom is the one that probably interests us most, but he looks stiff in coverage and gets thrown out of too many plays for my liking.
