Dolphins | Back-to-back interceptions a rare event

Barry Jackson, of the Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins QB Daunte Culpepper's interceptions on consecutive passes Thursday, Sept. 7, were a rare event. That happened only eight times in the NFL last season. Culpepper did it in last year's Minnesota Vikings season opener, too.

Out of 32 teams, 16 weeks, all the hundreds of drives that occur per week, yes 8 times is rare.
But I'm not sure I'm happy that Daunte did something that was so rare.

8 times (16 passes attempted) out of 16,465 attempted in the NFL in 2005...

That is approximatley 0.0009717% (or 900 hundredths) of passes attempted...it is rare...:wink:

or in a more understandable mode...

1. 2 INTs back to back every 2,058 passing attempts...
2. 8 times in 512 games (0.015%)...
3. 8 times out of 30,720 NFL minutes in the season...
4. 2 INTs back to back every 3,840 NFL minutes...
5. 2 INTS back to back every 64 NFL hours...

Something that happened in over 3% of all regular season games is hardly rare, unlikely seems more fitting.

Rare would be something that generally happens less than once a year, a drop kick or a 500+ yard passing game.

I don't know how you do your math... look at my post above....0.0009% of total passes attampted... is rare....

no, its not rare... it happened 8 times in 1 year alone. how many times u see a 500+yard passing game? 5+td ? those things are rare. something that happens 8 times in 1 nfl season is hardly rare... lol

Mine is per game - 8/(32*16/2) = 3.125%

0.0009% of total passes attampted... is rare....

As a percent of passes it seems somewhat rare, per game it is not. I guess it just how you look at it.

Your math seems incorrect... it should be 8/(32*16)= 1.5%...
Why are you dividing by 2??? or 8 (times) / (32 (teams) * 16 (games in season) = 1.5%

It a pass attempt, not a game attempt issue...but if you want to use it on game issue its still 1.5% of of total games...

That was 3 pass attempt out of 549 or 0.005 (or 1/2 of a %)...rare also for us...
