Dolphins | Barnes appears to be ahead of Beasley at fullback
Tue, 22 Aug 2006 06:05:55 -0700
The Miami Herald reports Miami Dolphins FBs Fred Beasley and Darian Barnes are locked in a competition for the team's starting fullback spot, and part of the edge Barnes enjoys might be a result of advice he got from Beasley. Before training camp started, Beasley was considered the better receiver, whereas Barnes was considered the better blocker and special-teams player. Beasley gave Barnes some advice on how to catch the ball better. Head coach Nick Saban told Barnes the Dolphins needed to see improvement in the receiving portion of his game and the coach was impressed with the player's response. Saban noted that Beasley showed improvement in the second preseason game and has done a good job.

Interesting. I think we'll carry both of them on the team though.

it would be dumb to lose beasley. hes shown what he can do year in and year out. hes another passing option for daunte.

for godness darian barnes its a baby in front o beasly

wow this is a suprise to me, I was under the impression that Beasly had the job locked up, no questions. I was wrong.

So was I. We are talking about a guy who can make pro bowls. I am shocked to see that Barnes is coming along like he is. I think we should give Beasley this year and possibly next year but after that, Barnes could be a bull dozer for us. At least we are very stable at the position, should make for a great several years for Ronnie.

yes because beasly is very experienced and great to have around.

I think we can carry both. One can possibly be an emergency RB. You've got a Pro Bowl caliber and a potential Pro Bowl caliber FB on the same team. Other teams would love to have that situation. Can't say the same about our OL or secondary.

Just so we don't release one of them and it comes back to haunt us, like Heath Evans.

What did Heath Evans do to diserve being cut?

I think the Dolphins will keep both and go with a total of 5 RB/FB (Brown, Morris, and Minor). Sure is a nice "problem" for Saban to have.
