In recent history, the team's best players have been Wake, Grimes, Albert (when healthy), and now Suh. This has not helped us in going anywhere but mediocrity. The money really did not matter but, was it worth it?

Maybe without the FA's we would have been worse and got better picks who could have helped turn things around as opposed to now having aging vets to replace. With our draft record, who knows but something to think about when we enter into this year's FA bidding.

yeah I know sad, isn't it ?

Jones was drafted.

Having elite players join by FA isn't a big deal. Coaching has been more detrimental than anything.

Landry and Jones: drafted... they take a backseat to noone... and hopefully after this season, Tannehill. And then there's Pouncey which is open to debate.

When you draft Daniel Thomas and Koa Misi 2nd rd your team is not gonna be good at all

Add Eddie Moore, John Beck, Chad Henne, Phillip Merling, Pat White, Johnathan Martin, and Jamar Taylor to the list of crappy 2nd round draft picks

I don't know I think recently we've had more success drafting players than finding successful free agents. Jones, Landry, Miller, Vernon, Pouncey, James, Ajayi, Parker, Jenkins, Phillips etc..

The Grimes and Wake signings are more than ok. Both provided GREAT value at critical positions. You literally could not ask for more. It's the big dollar free agent signings that can hurt the team. We could sign four Brent Grimes for what we spent on Suh. I love Suh as a player. But that price tag...... The opportunity cost of signing Suh is very high. IMHO in years you are tight with the cap you are better off not being aggressive in FA, save some bucks for the following year, maybe you get a decent comp pick or two, and if you lose a couple extra games and improve your draft stock it helps you down the road. Then be more aggressive in the following year, when you'll have picks and position in the draft and FA dollars to properly improve your roster. Like in Ireland
s "Picks and Money" off season. You just can't poop the bed like he did when you do this though....

Joey Porter, Reggie Bush, karlos dansby. We have really sucked at drafting in the past, for the last few years up until recently with emergence or Jones and Landry, our best players have always been free agents.

This thread doesn't make a whole lot of sense,

especially in light of the Dolphin's CURRENT issues resigning DRAFTED players that have played WELL.

Wake was brought in from Canada, he was undrafted.

Signing Suh was the mistake not the answer.

If they didn't sign Suh, what do you think would have happened last year?

If they had let Hickey continue to try & BUILD a contender do you seriously think we would have been worse off?

They only won 6 games last season.

If Suh was not brought in and t-bomb was off trying to make a living as an agent my money says the Dolphins would have won more games last season than they did.

Even if they hadn't won more games last year, the Fins would have had more money to properly rebuild the roster this year AND had better draft picks. We keep going for the short cuts (Wallace, Ellerbe, Albert, Suh) and so far it isn't working.

Lets go big picture/long term... add the names Marino, Thomas, & Taylor to the list.

Do Miami's best players still come from FA?
