Dolphins Blurbs

I’d prefer the opposite, giving him a better chance to play in the more important games.

Would you bet on him making it through a full season? Cause if you would, I’ll take that action. Even odds.
Yet, by the time we get through 10 games, there’s always a chance that there no “important” games remaining. Then you’ve potentially sat a pending free agent for what could 10 of the final 17 games for which he was under contract.

Seems like a poor strategy.

The second half of the season is more important regardless, if we are just playing the if's game. Having him play well and then losing him is still the worst case scenario IMO. It would be foolish to expect a full season out of him at this point. At the very least I'd hedge my bets and bring him back when the football games tend to matter more.

If were out of it through 10 games, its because Tua is hurt long term at which point the whole discussion is irrelevant.

The odds of JP getting through 17 games is really low. Not sure why so many are in a rush to see his career come to an official end.

I'd like to see him get through half a season, get a one year deal and see if he can prove himself all over again.

Jaelan Phillips is a good example of what happens when you try to play through pain and injury.

Guy should have never been on the field

He basically got leg whipped trying to make a tackle on a downhill runner in space by a teammate. I don’t know how you can come to that conclusion.

However I will say philips is the most physically gifted player on this team and one of the few potential outlook changers but if he gets hurt again he’s going down as maybe the poster boy for career derailed by injury.

He's had two unrelated flukish injuries. The turf monster got his achilles in New Jersey and that rat bastard Buffalo Bill double agent Poyer took out his knee last year. Either could've happened in Week 1 , Week 9, Week 18 or anywhere in between. On May 27 he sure looked like he's moving well with no apparent limitations in that short video, no way in hell is he going to be anywhere else but in the starting lineup come Week 1. Especially in a contract year.

PFF ranked top 32 edge rushers, 3 Fins on the list which is the most in the NFL. Pass rush can be special

18. Jaelan Phillips, Miami Dolphins

Phillips, who ranked No. 10 on this list last year, suffered a torn ACL in Week 4, marking his second major injury in less than a year after tearing his Achilles in November 2023. He was dominant in just his second NFL season in 2022, finishing the year with an elite 90.1 PFF pass-rush grade.

The potential is undeniable with Phillips, who will very soon turn 26, but returning to form after back-to-back devastating injuries will be no easy task.

21. Bradley Chubb, Miami Dolphins

Chubb suffered a torn ACL in late December 2023 and missed the entire 2024 season as a result. He was in the midst of his best year as a pro, setting career highs in pass-rush grade (84.9), run-defense grade (71.1), and coverage grade (88.5).

Like teammate Jaelan Phillips, Chubb is working to return from yet another serious injury. He previously tore his other ACL twice — once in high school and again in 2019 as a member of the Denver Broncos.

27. Chop Robinson, Miami Dolphins

Robinson had an impressive rookie season, ranking sixth in the NFL with an 18.8% pass-rush win rate and leading the Dolphins with 56 total pressures. Already an established pass-rusher, he’ll need to improve his run defense — he earned a 55.4 grade in that area last season — to take the next step in his development.

And bonus sadface

17. Andrew Van Ginkel, Minnesota Vikings

Van Ginkel reunited with former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores in Minnesota and delivered the most productive season of his career, recording 50 pressures for the second straight year and a career-high 11.5 sacks. His pass-rushing numbers could have been even higher if not for his frequent coverage responsibilities — he dropped into coverage 212 times in 2024, by far the most among edge defenders. Still, with three pick-sixes over the past two seasons, it’s a skill set the Vikings are wise to utilize.

Oh I know, just a personal preference with his injury history
I hear ya...and with that type of player, its my stance you can't bubble-wrap 'em and break glass in case of emergency. Gotta get 'em out there. If they keep getting season-ending injuries and it takes them out of the league, well you prevented a bad contract in finding out as soon as you could. And its not a knock on Phillips...he didn't get injured playing risky or doing something stupid like Tua. Some bodies just can't deal with it, and that's fine, you'd just rather know before dropping $20M+.

He went into that game with an injured leg.

Also had 2 linbackers in the top 32:

25. Jordyn Brooks, Miami Dolphins

Brooks resurrected his career in 2024 with his move to Miami, earning the highest PFF overall grade of his career (71.3) and ranking fifth in PFF WAR at the linebacker position. Before that, he had posted sub-60.0 PFF grades in each of his four seasons in Seattle.

If Brooks can keep the momentum going in 2025, he will prove he’s one of the top 25 linebackers in the NFL.

29. Tyrel Dodson, Miami Dolphins

After posting the highest PFF overall grade (90.2) among linebackers in 2023 for Buffalo — albeit on less than 600 snaps — Dodson signed with the Seahawks but failed to catch on before being released after nine games. The Dolphins claimed him, and he went on to generate an 85.6 PFF coverage grade, the highest at the position from Week 11 onward. If Dodson can repeat that effort in a full season in 2025, he will be well worth his modest contract.
