Teams are allowed to bring 30 non-local draft prospects to their offices for visits, and the Dolphins are using a bunch on linebackers or defensive ends, some of whom can play linebacker.

Per sources, Illinois linebacker Carroll Phillips, Mississippi State end/linebacker Johnathan Calvin and Missouri State linebacker Dylan Cole all have been booked for Dolphins visits.

Phillips, who attended Miami Central, will have a longer visit with Miami than the local workout day reserved for most local players. He earned All Big Ten honors as a senior with nine sacks and 19 tackles for loss last season.

Look like day 3 strong side backer types...phillips is athletic but very raw as a lb...im interested in him but it would either be comp 3 or day 3 interest

Depth adds out the gate

I'd be all for Carroll Phillips at pick number 97. Adds depth to the linebackers and he'd replace Koa misi next year.

So if we are doing the math the scheduled visits have been a 1st round de or a likely comp 3 range de...pure 43 de types by the way

A 2nd round safety or a probably 3rd round safety

And a comp 3 or later and two late draftable type lbs...none of which would be better starting options than koa misi out the gate at strong

Just gives a bit of a general idea where their heads are although im sure they will meet with a guard or two or maybe some corners nickel especially types to keep teams from honing in on our draft positional thoughts

Supposedly desmond king has been getting a lot of attention...but i doubt that would be at safety for us considering we like the interchangeable types that can strike in the box...probably more nickel there

Well, fits the bill for the 4-3 Over Cover 2 "continuity" we've been hearing about.

. . . yeah

Kings value is hard to gauge...very good football player high iq...but lacks long speed and lacks it to the point the boundary might be dicey or even a no go...pretty sure he gets drafted as a nickel if its miami but i struggle with him lasting to comp 3

I seriously doubt justin evans is viewed as an interchangeable type at safety so that one may be more token then anything else

They may feel in desmond king they get nickel and depth safety but id be nervous about that box tackling at safety...for our scheme

So it seems like we are defintely more focused on late round linebackers....

the only guy with multiple meetings with Miami on that list :hump:

I could on board with King as the nickel, we definitely need another player there, unless one of the young corners can do it but I think they are all boundary types

May be focused on a defensive end and offensive lineman in the first two rounds. That would leave linebacker in round three or beyond.

Matt Milano, from Boston College, is a player I like in round three. I think he's definitely a weakside player, though.

nothing kills a corners draft value more than lack of speed

absolutely nothing

We need to draft a stud linebacker. Not a 4th or 5th round prospect.
