The Miami Dolphins are getting closer and closer to the start of training camp, with a lot of work to be done during the summer before the team reaches the start of the regular season. While a lot of the camp will be continuing to install the team’s playbook and making sure players like Ryan Tannehill and Raekwon McMillan remain healthy as they return from injuries that cost them the 2017 season, there will also be tough descisions when it comes to the team’s 53-man roster. The 2018 version of the Dolphins has a lot of depth at several positions, and the numbers game of building the roster will not allow all of those players to make the roster.

I believe someone posted that Grant was on the bubble as well.

This place..I swear!
Yeah, no chance on that.

Parker, Stills, Wilson, Amendola, Grant are locks, i would bet we keep one more this year, Carroo probably having the inside track (maybe we look to trade him for peanuts?) or Ford might be next up to make the team. I think The team likes drew Morgan and Scott tho too, not sure how much longer Scott can stay ps eligible

Is it possible we keep 7 WR on the final roster due to how much depth we have there? Probably not right? 6 would be the most on the 53?

I haven't completely given up on Carroo yet, think hes been buried behind good talent since hes been here and its not his fault we made a stupid decision trading up to draft a position that we were already quite good at..

That being said he doesn't deserve a roster spot just because of draft status, cant wait to see how camp/pre-season plays out. I liked Ford a lot in last years draft and thought he was going to go much higher than Rd 7 so hopefully he has a good camp!

I thought Caroo was of the same mold as Landry. That was the skill set presented when we moved up to get him. He doesn’t have speed so the fact we went out and signed Wilson and Amendola tells me Caroo won’t make this roster.
Grant can return and showed a huge upside last year at all WR positions so he is safe. Scott, Morgan and Ford are all PS candidates. I think we keep 5 and if any of those 3 guys can show something they will be insurance policies for Parker if he doesn’t come around to meet that 5th year option price and or depthto fill in for Amdendola injuries.

No. It’s highly possible we only keep 5. We have 2 rookie TEs that are making the team, but may not be ready to play early, so TE could easily take the extra roster spot. If we do end up keeping 6 WRs it’s going to be because that 6th guy killed it on special teams.

The decision will also depend on who we might be able stash away in the practice squad.

Carrot won't make it by being the Carroo of previous years. If he has a higher ceiling, he better reach it by September

When it's all said and done IMO Miami will keep 6 WRs on the roster and the final spot will come down to Ford or Carroo. Stills, Grant, Parker, Wilson, and Amendola are locks. Watch for a surprise trade before the trade deadline concerning Parker. If Parker still is struggling Miami could cut bait ... just a thought.

Keeping six receivers is conceivable, even if injuries don't feed into that decision. Usually if you were going to keep six though it would be because one of your guys has an injury issue and thus you need the depth. I'm not sure I've ever seen seven kept on a roster, and I could only imagine it happening in the case of a rash of injuries happening at the top of the depth chart.

Leonte Carroo, Isaiah Ford, Rashawn Scott, Francis Owusu, Malcolm Lewis, and Drew Morgan are all fighting for a sixth spot, or to be the "next man up" should some injuries happen in training camp. There's some backing for Rashawn Scott on staff, but evidently Gase also likes Ford.

I think Francis Owusu could be interesting, if given enough time. Remember that he's a physical specimen that if I recall right had been sort of between positions a lot. He's 6'2.5" and 225 lbs, ran a 4.37 with great follow-on jump (39" vertical, 10'7" broad jump) and agility (4.13 shuttle, 7.07 cone) drills. Stanford kid, smart guy.

Only played 20 snaps last year in preseason but I remember actually made a splash in those 20 snaps. Here's one of his two big catches:

And of course if you go back to Stanford, he was the guy that made literally one of the best catches in college football history:

Thing is, he's known as a standout special teams player. So he has that going for him. If the light clicks on as a receiver, and Rizzi starts pounding the table for him as a special teamer, you never know.

Owusu is a physical freak. Has the size, speed and athleticism you love in a WR. Would love to see him step up and come out of nowhere to make the roster. We could use that type of size and speed.

I'd not even think about him to any degree if he hadn't actually made some plays in the the 2017 preseason. He did though, so you've got to at least keep an eye.
